Budget Analyst
Description
Under limited supervision, the Budget Analyst supports financial decision making by monitoring revenue and expenditure budgets, general ledger activity, and economic indicators and by preparing reports and presentations based on that data.
Posted pay range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.
Examples of Duties
- Assists departments with their budget requests and answering questions on budget policy, historical actuals, estimated revenue, and other factors.
- Monitors, tracks, and forecasts revenues and expenses for budget preparation and financial reporting.
- Conducts analyses and related reports including but not limited to budget-to-actual comparisons, historical trend analyses, revenue projections, and cost-benefit analyses.
- Maintains data integrity of the financial database by carefully reviewing and reconciling budget reports with the general ledger.
Assists Budget Manager with research for special projects requested by City Manager's Office, the CFO, or other departments.
Monitors citywide revenues and expenditures and provides department management with reports and information as requested. - Conducts statistical trend analysis using a business analytics program and summarizes findings tailored tothe appropriate audience.
- Develops/updates models for financial planning, including long range revenue forecasts, for the GeneralFund, Utility Fund, and HOT & Venue Tax Funds.
- Thinks critically with strong attention to detail, writing skills, and excellent communication ability.
Experience and Training
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field of study.
- Minimum three years of accounting, budgeting, or related financial experience. Additional education, beyond a Bachelor's degree, may substitute for experience on a year-to-year basis.
