Clinic Coordinator 

About our clinic: 

Healthy Kids School- Based Health Clinic is dedicated to addressing the needs of children in Johnson County, Iowa who are uninsured, underinsured, or face other barriers to healthcare access. Healthy Kids operates as a non-profit organization, offering free medical services in clinics located in area schools (Southeast Middle School, City High School, West High School, Northwest Middle School and North Central Middle School). Our mission is to ensure that all children have access to essential healthcare. This initiative not only supports the physical and mental health of children but also enables their participation in school and extracurricular activities. 

Clinic Coordinators work in collaboration with the program director, medical director, and a team of medical providers to ensure Healthy Kids Clinics operations. The Clinic Coordinator position involves a variety of administrative tasks including patient appointment scheduling, receiving and processing referrals, and coordinating care via orders from providers. Clinic Coordinators also ensure the day-to-day administration of the clinical area and patient intake including greeting and assisting patients upon arrival or on the phone, helping with vitals (height, weight, vision screen), providing language interpretation when needed and assisting with transportation arrangements for patient families.  

Clinic Coordinator - Job Description 

Essential Duties: 

Answer phone, voicemail, email and in-person inquiries 

Responsible for organizing, scheduling, and confirming patient appointments via electronic medical records (Athena)  

Serve as a liaison between patients and clinical staff to relay messages and address scheduling conflicts or time-sensitive requests 

Prepare printed and electronic clinic forms/materials for clinics 

Receive and facilitate referrals, communicate with partner agencies/institutions 

Medical interpretation for consults when needed (training available) 

Assist patients/families with applications for financial assistance for emergency and specialty care 

Process lab, vision and dental orders 

Assist with vaccine data entry/inventory management 

Travel to area school-based clinics (Iowa City, Coralville and North Liberty) as needed 

 

Requirements: 

College degree preferred, however a combination of high school diploma (or equivalent) and experience considered 

Minimum 3 years' experience in healthcare, social work or related field. 

Bilingual Spanish/English (knowledge of French, Arabic, Swahili or Lingala will be considered)  

Willing to learn and use electronic medical records (Training provided)  

Compliance with HIPPA and FERPA guidelines for confidentiality 

Strong understanding of and respect for cultural, linguistic and socio-economic differences 

Ability to work independently and as part of a team 

 

Preferred Experience: 

Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Forms, etc.) 

Electronic medical records systems 

 

Employment: 

Hourly contract of 20-35hrs/week negotiable 

Starting pay $25/hr. 

Prorated benefit package available
