The “I Have A Dream” Foundation is seeking enthusiastic, student-centered Program Assistants to join four AmeriCorps cohorts for the 2026-2027 service year.
"I Have A Dream" partners with AmeriCorps to help students from low-income communities succeed in school and achieve postsecondary success. As a Program Assistant, you'll mentor students, support families, and help build pathways to lifelong success.
What is AmeriCorps?
AmeriCorps is a federally funded program that allows nonprofits to welcome service members who make a real impact in their communities. It's not a traditional job. It's a professional development opportunity that places you at the heart of a meaningful program.
What You'll Do
- Mentor a caseload of 15-25 "Dream Scholars" as a positive role model and guide
- Plan and lead in-school and after-school academic, social-emotional, and enrichment activities
- Support students in the classroom through one-on-one and small-group tutoring
- Support volunteer tutors, mentors, and other program volunteers
- Engage parents through workshops, discussion groups, and program activities
- Build college and career awareness through job training and internship opportunities
- Maintain student records and support site office operations
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- At least 17 (21+ preferred), with a high school diploma or GED
- U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident
- Able to pass required National Service Criminal History Checks
- Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience in education or human services preferred
What's the Commitment?
Three-Quarter-Time Position (6 openings)
- 1,200-hour minimum, approximately 35-40 hours per week
- Living allowance of $14,700, paid semi-monthly at $735 (pre-tax)
- $5,176.50 Segal Education Award for eligible education expenses
- Ongoing professional development
Half-Time Positions (1 opening)
- 900-hour minimum, approximately 18-25 hours per week
- Living allowance of $11,500, paid semi-monthly at $575 (pre-tax)
- $3,697.50 Segal Education Award for eligible education expenses
- Ongoing professional development
