The role
Fly Point Partners is looking for a Chief Drone Pilot to lead drone show performances, support drone operations across multiple industries, and manage test and maintenance flights at our designated test field. This position requires extensive travel to show locations, with many shows occurring on weekends.
You'll work closely with the CXO, Director of Education, Educational Specialists, Creative & Animation Director, and other team members to make sure all equipment, logistics, and information are properly aligned for safe, high-quality show execution. You'll also play an active role in fleet testing and maintenance, feeding real-world field experience back into the operation.
What you'll do
- Serve as Pilot in Command for drone show performances, test flights, and additional drone operations across industries- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure equipment, logistics, and operational requirements are met before every show- Conduct pre-flight planning, risk assessments, and safety checks- Travel to show locations as required — frequent weekends, some potential international travel- Assist with testing, maintenance, and overall management of the drone fleet- Ensure compliance with FAA regulations and company policies- Maintain accurate logs of flight operations and maintenance activities- Support training and onboarding of new team members and student workers- Help create and teach Part 107 curriculum and additional drone coursework- Assist in production and scheduling of drone light shows and other drone work- Provide feedback to executive leadership on operational improvements and future development- Contribute content ideas for drone-related social media- Participate in internal working groups and special projects as needed
About you
Required:- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate- Strong understanding of drone technology, flight control systems, and safety protocols- Ability to perform effectively under pressure- Willingness to travel extensively, including weekends and potential international travel- Excellent communication, coordination, and teamwork skills- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities- Valid driver's license and ability to operate company vehicles if needed- Broad to deep knowledge of aviation and drone piloting- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English- Highly organized, detail-oriented, able to manage multiple priorities- Ability to build and maintain relationships with customers and partners
Preferred (not required):- Experience in remote or in-person instruction (synchronous/asynchronous)- Familiarity with Fly Point Partners' market — students, colleges, educators- Background in drone engineering- Familiarity with Firefly Light Show Drones & Software- Experience managing in-house or remote employees/contractors
