Office of the Inspector General Internship – City of Oakland
The City of Oakland Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is offering unpaid research internship opportunities for students interested in public policy, criminal justice, government, law, public administration, or related fields.
Under the supervision of the Deputy Inspector General, interns will assist with research, policy review, community engagement, and special projects as assigned by the Inspector General. This internship provides an opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the process of reviewing policies and developing recommendations for the City of Oakland.
Responsibilities
Research legal and public policy issues.
Review and analyze official policies and procedures.
Assist with special projects and research assignments.
Participate in community engagement activities.
Prepare research and other materials as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Office of the Inspector General.
Required/Preferred Skills
Strong research and analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Ability to review and interpret policies, laws, and other documents.
Attention to detail and ability to organize information effectively.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Interest in public policy, criminal justice, government oversight, or a related field.
Professionalism and commitment to confidentiality.
Minimum Requirements
Current college/university student or recent graduate in a relevant field such as criminal justice, public policy, political science, public administration, law, or a related discipline.
Ability to commit to working in the office three days per week.
Internship is unpaid. Academic credit/accreditation is subject to the requirements of the student's academic department.
Hours per week and daily schedule are flexible and will be discussed during the second round of interviews.
