TK-8 After School Special Ed Inclusion Aide

TK-8 After School Special Ed Inclusion Aide (San Diego Unified School District)

Work 2 to 5 days per week, 3 to 6 hours per day, around your college/university class schedule!

Full availability is Monday - Friday, 12:00pm - 6:00pm, or work 2 to 3 days per week, 2:00pm - 6:00pm.

Highlights/Requirements:

Classroom or 1:1 experience working with TK–12 students with disabilities.

Provide individualized support to 1–3 mod/severe (moderate-to-severe) students with special education needs.

Mod/severe (moderate-to-severe) refers to support for students with significant developmental, intellectual, physical, or behavioral needs requiring intensive, specialized instruction.

Support may include academic assistance, social-emotional guidance, and behavioral management to ensure each student’s safety, engagement, and success.

Students may have a variety of special needs, including Autism, Deafness, Emotional Disturbance, Intellectual Disability, Speech & Language Impairment, or Visual Impairment.

May also assist students with seizures and diabetes monitoring.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-on-one or small-group support to students, addressing the goals outlined in each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Behavior Success Plan.

Ensure student safety and engagement during program activities.

Assist with academic support, including study skills and learning tools.

Implement structured behavior management strategies and use positive reinforcement.

Support personal care needs, including toileting or diaper changes, as necessary.

Collaborate with program staff, families, and specialists to implement student support plans.

Facilitate enrichment activities, such as games, arts & crafts, and social-emotional learning, to create a positive, structured learning environment.

Conduct observations of program activities and student behavior when required, particularly during onboarding or new school-site assignments.

Each student has an IEP, a legally binding plan under U.S. law (IDEA) detailing specialized instruction, support, and goals. Staff will support students by addressing the goals outlined in their IEP.
