Certified Personal Trainer

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENT: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays

We are hiring specifically to expand our availability on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Applicants must have dependable and consistent availability on these days.

Position Overview

Royal Blue Fitness, a private personal training studio in Pleasant Hill, California, is seeking a part-time Certified Personal Trainer to coach primarily one-on-one sessions. This is an in-person role with an expected workload of approximately 8 to 20 hours per week as the trainer's client schedule develops.

Compensation: $30 to $40 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, education, and demonstrated coaching ability.

About Royal Blue Fitness

Royal Blue Fitness is a private personal training studio focused on helping people build strength, improve movement, regain confidence, and maintain the physical ability to continue doing the things they enjoy. We provide individualized one-on-one training for adults across a wide range of ages and fitness levels. Our clients include healthy adults seeking strength and fitness improvement, older adults, individuals returning to exercise following injury or physical therapy, and clients who may require thoughtful exercise modifications.

This is not a traditional commercial gym position. Our trainers are coaches first. You will not be expected to walk a gym floor prospecting for members or aggressively sell training packages. Royal Blue Fitness provides the clients, facility, equipment, programming infrastructure, assessment systems, technology, and internal coaching processes, so you can focus on coaching.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coach primarily one-on-one personal training sessions
  • Deliver individualized strength and fitness programs based on each client's goals, abilities, and limitations
  • Teach proper exercise technique and movement mechanics
  • Progress, regress, and modify exercises appropriately
  • Work with adults of different ages, fitness levels, and physical abilities
  • Support clients returning to exercise after injury or physical therapy when appropriate and within your scope of practice
  • Communicate clearly with clients about training, progress, and expectations
  • Document relevant training information
  • Follow Royal Blue Fitness programming, assessment, coaching, and operational systems
  • Participate in internal training and professional development
  • Maintain a professional, supportive, clean, and welcoming training environment

Required Qualifications

  • Current nationally recognized Personal Trainer certification (NASM, ACSM, NSCA, ACE, ISSA, or a comparable recognized certification)
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Strong foundation in functional and progressive strength training
  • Working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, or kinesiology
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Reliable, punctual, professional, and organized
  • Coachable and receptive to feedback
  • Patient and empathetic with clients
  • Able to explain exercises clearly without unnecessarily complicated terminology

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 6 months of one-on-one or small-group personal training experience
  • Experience working with older adults
  • Experience with clients returning to exercise after injury or physical therapy
  • Corrective exercise or exercise modification experience
  • Familiarity with movement or strength assessments
  • Experience working with chronic conditions or physical limitations
  • Experience creating individualized strength programs

You do not need to already know our systems. We provide training in our programming standards, assessment processes, technology, documentation, client-management systems, and coaching approach.

The Ideal Candidate

We value reliability, coachability, empathy, work ethic, professionalism, humility, integrity, and a genuine interest in helping clients succeed. Technical knowledge is important, but communication and the ability to build trust with clients are equally important. We are looking for a trainer who listens, understands that every client is different, follows structured systems, accepts feedback without ego, and wants to keep developing professionally.

This opportunity may be a great fit for kinesiology, exercise science, or personal training students, recent graduates, and alumni who already meet the certification and CPR/AED requirements and want to grow as a professional coach in a private training environment.
