About the Casper Spuds
Thank you for your interest in joining the Casper Spuds Baseball organization!
The Casper Spuds are a minor league-style collegiate summer baseball organization based in Casper, Wyoming. We combine competitive collegiate baseball with the entertainment, promotions, community engagement, and fan experience of minor league baseball.
Our goal is to provide interns with meaningful, hands-on experience that prepares them to compete for future opportunities in collegiate and professional sports. Spuds interns aren't simply observing from the sidelines—they become an important part of our organization and help bring the Spuds experience to life throughout the season.
We are happy to work with students who wish to fulfill requirements for college internship credit when applicable. We are looking for creative, motivated individuals who are ready to learn, contribute, and become part of the Spuds team.
Position Overview
The Casper Spuds are seeking an energetic, knowledgeable, and engaging Play-by-Play Broadcaster Intern to serve as one of the voices of Spuds Baseball during the 2027 summer season.
This internship provides hands-on experience in live sports broadcasting, play-by-play, sports storytelling, interviewing, broadcast preparation, research, and digital sports media.
The Play-by-Play Broadcaster Intern will call live Casper Spuds games streamed on YouTube and other digital platforms, helping fans follow the action while bringing the personalities, stories, atmosphere, and energy of Spuds Baseball to viewers beyond the ballpark.
The role extends beyond simply describing what happens on the field. The broadcaster will research players and opponents, prepare game notes, communicate statistics and storylines, conduct interviews, incorporate sponsor elements, and collaborate with the Spuds production and media teams to create an engaging broadcast experience.
The ideal candidate understands that great play-by-play is a combination of accuracy, preparation, personality, storytelling, and knowing when to let the game speak for itself.
This is not a sit-on-the-sidelines summer internship! You'll be on the microphone, interviewing players and coaches, researching stories, working alongside a live production crew, and developing an on-air portfolio throughout the summer.
Key Responsibilities
Live Play-by-Play: Prepare and deliver live game-day play-by-play commentary for Casper Spuds baseball broadcasts.
Broadcast Preparation: Research the Casper Spuds and visiting teams prior to games, including players, coaches, statistics, standings, recent performances, roster changes, and relevant storylines.
Baseball Storytelling: Go beyond describing pitches and plays by incorporating player backgrounds, season storylines, baseball knowledge, and appropriate context that keeps viewers engaged throughout the game.
Game-Day Statistics: Access, organize, and communicate accurate game and season statistics for both teams throughout broadcasts.
Pregame Preparation: Develop game notes, talking points, statistical information, player information, and potential storylines prior to each broadcast.
Player & Coach Interviews: Conduct pregame, postgame, and feature interviews with Spuds players, coaches, and other appropriate guests.
Sponsor Integration: Collaborate with Spuds leadership and marketing personnel to appropriately incorporate sponsor mentions, partnership messages, promotional reads, and commercial elements into broadcasts.
Production Collaboration: Work closely with the Live Sports Production Director Intern and other members of the production team to coordinate the timing and flow of broadcasts.
Broadcast Cues: Respond appropriately to production cues for commercial breaks, sponsor elements, graphics, replays, interviews, promotional content, and other broadcast features.
Pregame & Postgame Content: Assist with the development and presentation of pregame, postgame, and other broadcast segments when appropriate.
On-Camera Content: Participate in on-camera introductions, interviews, features, promotional segments, and other Spuds media content as opportunities arise.
Highlight & Recap Content: Provide commentary, voiceover, interviews, or other broadcast elements that may be incorporated into highlights, game recaps, promotional videos, and social media content.
Broadcast Equipment: Assist with setup, testing, monitoring, and breakdown of microphones, headsets, computers, and other broadcasting equipment as appropriate.
Broadcast Quality: Maintain professional standards for accuracy, pronunciation, pacing, language, preparation, and on-air presentation.
Digital Media Collaboration: Work with the Sports Videography & Digital Content Production Intern and other Spuds media personnel to develop interviews, features, voiceovers, and original content outside of live broadcasts.
Game-Day Operations: Collaborate with Spuds staff and fellow interns to support game-day activities, promotions, special events, and the overall fan experience.
Team Operations: Summer baseball is a team effort. Interns may assist with additional team and organizational responsibilities as needed to help provide a positive, safe, and memorable experience for Spuds fans.
