POSITION: Agronomy/Turfgrass Intern

POSITION REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent

 

POSITION PURPOSE

This internship is designed for an individual pursuing a career 

in golf course management who wants meaningful, hands-on experience in a high-end 

private club environment. Interns will receive exposure to the agronomic, operational, and leadership components of managing a high-end private golf course, with opportunities tailored to their experience and career goals.

The intern will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant 

Superintendent, and agronomy leadership team while gaining experience in all aspects of golf course maintenance and turfgrass management. Responsibilities and exposure will increase throughout the internship based on the individual's experience, initiative, and demonstrated ability.

The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, initiative, strong communication skills, a desire to learn, and a commitment to delivering exceptional member experiences. The ideal candidate will leave Horseshoe Bay Golf Club with increased technical knowledge, greater responsibility, and a stronger understanding of what it takes to produce championship-level playing conditions.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the daily maintenance and conditioning of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and fine fescue/native areas
  • Assist with mowing, rolling, course setup, topdressing, aerification, and other cultural practices
  • Gain hands-on experience with moisture management, including hand watering and  the use of soil-moisture data
  • Assist with fertilizer, plant protectant, plant growth regulator, and wetting agent 
  • applications
  • Learn irrigation system operation, troubleshooting, and repair
  • Operate a variety of golf course maintenance equipment
  • Participate in tournament preparation and golf course improvement projects
  • Gain exposure to daily agronomic planning, staff management, and decision-making
  • Work directly with the agronomy leadership team and assume additional responsibilities as skills develop
