The Role. MVS is seeking a knowledgeable, meticulous, and creative technology leader to serve as Director of Technology. This pivotal role acts as the lead technology engineer, primary support technician, and strategic leadership liaison for the school's technology department. Directing all department operations, the Director oversees the design, provisioning, deployment, configuration, and maintenance of all campus technology resources. Key responsibilities include managing student and employee devices, internet and intranet routing, network security, account provisioning, printing systems, VoIP, and campus-wide WiFi. Deep expertise in Windows and Linux system administration is imperative, paired with an eager commitment to continuous learning. As a customer service-oriented leader, this individual interacts daily with the entire school community—including students from early childhood through high school, faculty, staff, and families—handling every interaction with high empathy, patience, and skill.

Expectations:
- Relational leadership: Build trusted, collaborative partnerships across administration, faculty, staff, parents, and students with a "listen-first" philosophy.
- Proactive communication: Deliver clear, transparent, and timely communication tailored to diverse audiences (prospective families, faculty, tech-novices, and leadership).
- Operational agility: Prioritize and execute complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives independently while meeting hard deadlines.
- Community investment: Engage visibly in campus life beyond core technical duties (e.g., advising, attendance at major school traditions).
- Availability mindset: Maintain flexibility for evening/weekend critical maintenance windows or crisis response.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Strategic Vision & EdTech Integration: Partner with division heads and the leadership team to align technology roadmap with institutional strategic planning, modern pedagogy, and AI/digital literacy trends.
- Infrastructure & Cybersecurity Oversight: Oversee enterprise systems, network architecture, cloud services, and school-wide cybersecurity posture, student data privacy compliance, security and camera systems, and disaster recovery.
- Faculty/Staff Capacity & Professional Learning: Design and coordinate targeted pedagogical technology training, coaching faculty/staff to integrate digital tools meaningfully through direct, hands on instructional support.
- Leadership & Tier-3 Support: Guide technical operations (supported by internal staff/student tech cohorts where applicable), stepping in for high-impact tier-3 troubleshooting and user empowerment.
- Budget & Vendor Lifecycle: Manage hardware/software lifecycle planning, vendor relationships, and departmental budgeting aligned with school fiscal priorities.
- Governance Support & Confidentiality: Provide dedicated technological assistance to the Board of Trustees and Board Chairperson, while maintaining strict confidentiality regarding board proceedings, school leadership, and community matters.
Leadership Team and Community Member
- Communicate regularly with the Head of School to keep them fully apprised of all activity in the technology department.
- Provide timely updates to the Board of Trustees at least 5 times a year about technology department activities, and provide periodic dashboard updates as requested.
- Serve as an active and engaged member of the leadership team.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Educational Technology, or a related field (master’s or relevant certifications preferred).
- Experience: 5+ years in educational technology, with experience in a senior leadership or director-level role managing departmental staff, budgets, and enterprise infrastructure strongly preferred.
- Technical Fluency: Demonstrated mastery of modern cloud/hybrid environments (Google Workspace/M365), identity management, enterprise networking (Wi-Fi, VLANs, firewalls), and endpoint management (MDM).
- EdTech & Pedagogy Acumen: Deep understanding of how independent schools balance tradition with digital innovation, safety, and screen-time/wellness policies.
- Interpersonal EQ: Exceptional emotional intelligence, crisis composure, and cross-functional diplomatic communication skills.
