Position Summary:
The Dental Assistant supports the dentist in delivering high-quality patient care while ensuring efficient daily dental operations. Key responsibilities include preparing patients and treatment rooms, assisting with clinical procedures, maintaining accurate patient records, and ensuring compliance with infection control and sterilization standards. The role also monitors dental supplies and equipment, supports patient comfort and education, and collaborates with the dental team to maintain a safe, organized, professional, and welcoming environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greet patients, monitor arrival times, escort and seat patients in treatment rooms, and monitor patient flow.
- Obtain and review patient health histories according to office protocol and accurately record and maintain patient information, services rendered, charges, and treatment plans in the dental record.
- Prepare patients to be seen by the dentist and ensure patient questions are answered thoroughly before they leave.
- Set up treatment rooms, instrument trays, treatment materials, and equipment for procedures; keep dental units ready, stocked, clean, and organized.
- Anticipate and assist the dentist's needs during clinical treatment and assist with basic dental procedures.
- Perform expanded functions and other clinical procedures as permitted by the applicable dental practice act and as directed by the dentist.
- Take dental X-rays of patients' teeth.
- Provide patients with instructions and information regarding dental hygiene and oral health as needed.
- Schedule patients for their next appointment.
- Maintain a sterile work environment by disinfecting treatment rooms and sterilizing instruments and handpieces in accordance with OSHA requirements and established sterilization procedures.
- Ensure standard infection control precautions are followed in treatment areas, the front office, and patient lobby, and ensure the office sterilization procedures document is displayed as required.
- Keep trays, instruments, treatment room drawers, and supplies organized and ensure treatment rooms remain stocked at all times.
- Assist with inventory management; monitor dental office supplies and notify the appropriate clinical coordinator when supplies are needed.
- Implement and follow the posted preventive maintenance and cleaning schedule for dental equipment.
- Maintain and monitor nitrous oxide and oxygen tanks.
- Ensure compliance with applicable state dental practice requirements, HIPAA privacy practices, OSHA training, and office protocols.
- Assist in other areas of the dental office as needed, including unpacking supplies and organizing materials.
- Promote teamwork by interacting professionally and effectively with patients, dentists, staff members, and the community.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Training:
- Certification from an accredited dental assistant program
- Dental X-ray certification
- HS Diploma/GED
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Skills/Abilities:
To excel in this role, you should be self-motivated, highly organized, a good communicator, and have the talent to inspire patients and the team.
