About the role

Meet At Mahj is a Mahjong studio and boutique in Zionsville, Indiana. Guests come to shop, learn, play, and spend time with friends. Our host helps every visit feel organized, personal, and enjoyable, whether someone is buying a gift, arriving for a lesson, or coming to open play.

This is an active, customer-facing role that combines thoughtful retail service with the details that keep classes, events, and open play running smoothly. We value a person who notices what needs doing, follows through, and takes pride in both the guest experience and the appearance of the boutique. Mahjong experience is a plus, but we can teach you about our products and programs.

Studying marketing, communications, or business? This role offers hands-on experience in social media content, retail marketing, and customer engagement for a locally owned business, with room to contribute creative ideas and work directly with the owner.

What you’ll do

● Welcome each guest warmly, listen to what they need, answer questions, and help them feel comfortable whether it is their first visit or their fiftieth.

● Learn the products and programs so you can make helpful recommendations and confidently assist with retail sales, classes, and events.

● Keep merchandise organized, displays inviting, and the boutique and studio clean and ready for guests.

● Support check-in, seating, room setup, and cleanup for lessons, open play, leagues, and events.

● Process purchases and reservations accurately using our point-of-sale and booking systems.

● Help with social media and marketing by capturing photos and short videos, contributing ideas for posts, and assisting with content that highlights our products, classes, events, and studio community in the Meet At Mahj style.

● Handle merchandise, payments, and customer information with care; acknowledge mistakes and raise concerns promptly.

● Follow opening and closing procedures, complete assigned tasks, and communicate clearly with the owner and team.

What we’re looking for

● A warm, attentive person who enjoys helping people and can give polished service without being stiff or pushy.

● An eye for presentation and a willingness to keep the retail space beautiful while actively helping customers shop.

● Dependability: you arrive on time, follow through, and communicate early when an issue arises.

● Good judgment and integrity when working with payments, inventory, and guest information.

● Comfort supporting a busy studio, learning new systems and product details, and shifting between retail and event tasks.

● An interest in social media and marketing, with comfort taking photos and short videos. Experience with Instagram, Facebook, or Canva is a plus.

● Mahjong experience is a plus. Prior boutique, specialty retail, hospitality, or event experience is also helpful.

● Ongoing availability for the evening and weekend shifts below, including peak holiday coverage.

Schedule and pay

● Part-time, in person in Zionsville, Indiana.

● Regular shifts include two to three evenings per week between 4:45 and 8:45 p.m. and weekend shifts scheduled between 9:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

● Availability during peak holiday periods is required. We will discuss known conflicts in advance and communicate the schedule as early as possible.

● Hourly pay: $18–$20, based on experience.
