PBS Reno Event Intern (PBS Reno, Pack Intern, Spring '27)

**This internship is hosted by Channel 5 Public Broadcasting, INC. and sponsored by the Nevada Career Studio and ASUN. 

 

Students are highly encouraged to complete a 15 minute drop-in or schedule an in-person or virtual 30-minute appointment with a Career Mentor BEFORE submitting an application. Resumes and cover letters that do not meet NCS best practices will not be included in applicant packages to employers. 

  

After the application period closes in Handshake, the NCS Internships Team reviews the applicants and sends eligible students' applicant packages to employers for them to reach out to conduct interviews and make the final intern selection. Employers will contact students directly if they are interested in moving forward with them as a candidate.

Internship Description: 

PBS Reno’s events serve as a core component of our local brand, providing consistent, high visibility opportunities to engage with the community and reinforce the station’s position as a trusted public media source. These events function as key touchpoints that strengthen audience relationships, support fundraising objectives, and enhance overall brand recognition across Northern Nevada. The PBS Reno Event Intern supports the planning, coordination, and execution of education, major gifts, and membership events by assisting with logistics, communication, vendor coordination, on site support, and post event tasks. This role is ideal for someone eager to gain hands on experience in event management, hospitality, marketing, or communications. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with event planning tasks such as research, auction outreach, and assistance with Monday.com project management 
  • Day-of event support for Be My Neighbor Day and other Spring events  
  • Support event setup and breakdown  
  • Coordinate materials such as name badges, supplies, food & beverage, and marketing displays 
  • Data management of mailing lists for event invitations and auction solicitation 
  • Provide general administrative support to the event manager 
  • Assist in creating Event Overview for thorough event execution and communication 
  • Weekend availability and occasionally outside of 9:00pm-5:00pm hours 
  • Day-of coordination of events including set-up and breakdown 

 

Goals and Expectations of the Intern: 

  • Complete 120 hours of work as an intern (8-15 hours per week, 15 weeks total) 
  • Help plan, organize, and coordinate events 
  • Grow as a professional and as part of a dynamic team 
  • Communicate effectively with team and community members 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno during the Spring ‘27 semester 
  • December ‘26 or earlier graduates are not eligible for the Pack Internship Grant Program
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills 
  • Excellent communication and customer service mindset 
  • Ability to work in fast paced environments and adapt quickly 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic digital tools 
  • Willingness to work evenings or weekends during events 
  • Interest in event planning, hospitality, marketing, or related fields 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills  
  • Excellent communication and customer service mindset  
  • Ability to work in fast paced environments and adapt quickly 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic digital tools  
  • Willingness to work evenings or weekends during events 
  • Interest in event planning, hospitality, marketing, or related fields 

 

Desired Schedule for Intern:  

  • Applicants must be available to work 8-10 hours each week during normal business hours, 9:00am-5:00pm 
  • Occasionally, work Saturday or Sunday, sometimes outside of 9:00am-5:00pm work hours 

 

PIGP internships require interns to complete 120 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
