Program Assistant Intern (UNR Extension - Las Vegas, Pack Intern, Spring '27)

**This internship is hosted by University of Nevada Reno Extension and sponsored by the Nevada Career Studio and ASUN. 

 

Students are highly encouraged to complete a 15-minute drop-in or schedule an in-person or virtual 30-minute appointment with a Career Mentor BEFORE submitting an application. Resumes and cover letters that do not meet NCS best practices will not be included in applicant packages to employers. 

 

After the application period closes in Handshake, the NCS Internships Team reviews the applicants and sends eligible students' applicant packages to employers for them to reach out to conduct interviews and make the final intern selection. Employers will contact students directly if they are interested in moving forward with them as a candidate.

University of Nevada, Reno Extension serves as the community outreach arm of the university. Extension is committed to improving the well-being of communities across Nevada through implementing research-based interventions and programs.  

 

Internship Description: 

As the Program Assistant Intern, you will assist with program development by collaborating with program leaders to create, implement, and evaluate educational initiatives that address community needs in areas like health, and nutrition sustainability. 

 

The University of Nevada, Reno Extension emphasizes collaboration, innovation and helping the local communities in each county. The interns will have the opportunity to work on impactful and sustainable health related projects that address the needs of the community ranging from healthy youth development, aging, and interventions to combat obesity. Interns at University of Reno, Extension will be in an inclusive environment where they can apply their knowledge from class to real-world settings like community outreach. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Support ongoing research initiatives through data collection, surveys, and analysis, contributing to the understanding of community health and educational outreach 
  • Participate in events and outreach activities to promote UNR Extension programs, gather feedback, and build local relationships.  
  • Develop educational materials and resources to enhance community awareness. 

 

Goals and Expectations of the Intern: 

  • Complete 120 hours of work as an intern (8-15 hours per week, 15 weeks total) 
  • Gain practical experience in program development, learning new skills relevant to public health and community service, and establishing valuable community relationships. 
  • Develop a strong foundation in research-based education and outreach while enhancing skills in data analysis, communication, and event planning.  
  • By engaging with community members and local organizations, interns will learn the importance of collaboration and networking, preparing them for successful careers and enabling them to make a meaningful contribution to the communities served by UNR Extension. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno during the Spring ‘27 semester
  • December ‘26 or earlier graduates are not eligible for the Pack Internship Grant Program 
  • Enrolled in a relevant academic program, such as community health, nutrition, or education.  
  • Strong communication skills, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.  
  • Effective organizational skills and basic computer proficiency, particularly in applications like Microsoft Office, are essential for managing tasks and meeting deadlines. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • A strong interest in community work, health, nutrition, wellness, program development, and research. 
  • Those interested in research can participate in data collection and analysis on ongoing projects. 

 

Desired Schedule for Intern:  

Days and times will be appointed after they are discussed between the intern and supervisor. 

 

PIGP internships require interns to complete 120 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
