CYF Data & Analytics Intern
Use data to help strengthen services for children and families. You’ll work with analysts and data science staff to turn complex human-services data into useful metrics, dashboards and tools for program leaders.
About Allegheny County DHS
Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) connects people in need with services that help. Each year, DHS and its network of 300+ community-based organizations serve more than 200,000 residents across Allegheny County. Interns contribute to real public-sector work while learning alongside professionals working in human services, data, technology, policy, communications and program operations.
What You’ll Do
- Organize, classify and analyze administrative and program data, including contact-note data.
- Use SQL and natural language processing (NLP) techniques to structure data and support automated workflows.
- Partner with program staff to define and refine key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Explore data and develop metrics that surface program trends and improvement opportunities.
- Build and maintain Tableau dashboards and document reusable analytics processes.
What You’ll Gain

What We’re Looking For
- Coursework or experience in data analysis, statistics, economics, data science, public policy or a related field.
- Experience with—or interest in—SQL and data visualization tools such as Tableau.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills and comfort with complex or messy data.
- Ability to explain findings to technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Attention to detail and sound judgment when handling sensitive information.
