Summer 2027 India Summer Fellows Program - Institute for Climate and Sustainable Growth

Program Description:
A joint collaboration between the University of Chicago Institute for Climate and Sustainable Growth and Career Advancement, the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Growth India Summer Fellows Program is an intensive experiential program based at Ahmedabad University. Participants will gain first-hand exposure to the unique challenges and opportunities India faces while balancing climate change, energy demand and economic growth. Fellows will receive field-based training and curriculum delivered at the UChicago Delhi Center and Ahmedabad University’s Climate Institute, with the support of UChicago faculty and staff. Fellows have the opportunity for professional development and career training through research projects, seminars, workshops and a career trek. Additional opportunities for cultural exchange and exploration of India’s diverse cultural heritage sites are included!
Participating Fellows will begin the 3-week program in Delhi at in July with seminars and lectures from experts in energy, climate and sustainable growth before traveling as a group to Ahmedabad University in Ahmedabad, India. The program resumes with 2 weeks of classroom curriculum and field-based study looking at the climate challenge in an urban context through multiple lenses (housing, transportation, energy needs, air quality, migration, health impacts), starting from defining the problem and moving towards solutions. The program will be ~60% classroom instruction and 40% excursions where students will see how the challenge is being experienced locally and how NGOs, policy makers, and others are working to address it. Following this, students will end the program with a 3-day trek in Delhi with government, think tanks, and companies focused on climate and energy solutions.
