Social Media Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY
Refuge Outreach Services is seeking a creative, organized, mission-driven Social Media & Digital Communications Coordinator to develop and manage the organization’s social media presence and digital storytelling across major platforms.
This individual will help tell the story of Refuge Outreach Services, Harvest of Hope Market, and the Harvest of Hope Thrift Store while increasing community awareness, donor engagement, volunteer participation, partnerships, and support for our mission.
Our communications should consistently demonstrate our commitment to “Transforming Charity into Dignity.”
The ideal candidate understands that nonprofit social media is more than posting photographs and announcements. It is about building relationships, telling meaningful stories, creating community, and inspiring people to participate in the mission.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Social Media Management
Develop, manage, and maintain an active presence across appropriate platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, and other emerging platforms.
Create and maintain a consistent weekly and monthly content calendar.
Publish regular content highlighting:
• Harvest of Hope Market activities and impact • Harvest of Hope Thrift Store merchandise, promotions, and community impact
• Refuge Outreach Services programs and initiatives • Volunteer opportunities and volunteer recognition • Donor and community partner recognition • Community events
• Fundraising campaigns
• Food distributions and donations
• Behind-the-scenes operations
• Educational and community-resource information • Impact stories and testimonials
CONTENT CREATION & STORYTELLING
Create high-quality digital content including photographs, short-form videos, reels, interviews, graphics, stories, and written posts.
Capture authentic stories demonstrating how Refuge Outreach Services is making a difference in the community.
Develop compelling storytelling around the people, volunteers, donors, businesses, churches, foundations, and community organizations participating in the mission.
Ensure that all storytelling involving individuals receiving services is handled with dignity, appropriate permission, sensitivity, and respect.
Never exploit hardship, poverty, or personal circumstances for social media engagement or fundraising.
BRAND MANAGEMENT
Maintain consistent branding across all digital platforms. Ensure appropriate use of:
• Refuge Outreach Services identity
• Harvest of Hope Market identity
• Harvest of Hope Thrift Store identity
• Organizational logos
• Approved fonts and visual standards
• Photography and video
• Organizational messaging
Maintain consistent use of the core message: “Transforming Charity into Dignity.”
Help establish a recognizable voice for the organization that is hopeful, professional, compassionate, community centered, and inspiring.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Monitor social media accounts and respond appropriately to comments, messages, questions, and community inquiries.
Build relationships with followers, volunteers, donors, businesses, churches, nonprofit organizations, neighborhood organizations, and community partners.
Identify opportunities to collaborate with community organizations and local influencers who align with the mission of Refuge Outreach Services.
FUNDRAISING & DONOR ENGAGEMENT
Work with the Executive Director and fundraising team to develop digital campaigns supporting fundraising initiatives.
Create social media content surrounding:
• Giving campaigns
• Special fundraising events
• Capital campaigns
• Giving Tuesday
• Year-end giving
• Monthly giving
• Sponsorship opportunities
• Corporate partnerships
• Food and product donation drives
• Volunteer campaigns
Develop appropriate calls to action that encourage followers to Give, Volunteer, Donate, Shop, Partner, and Share.
HARVEST OF HOPE THRIFT STORE MARKETING
Develop a strong digital presence for the Harvest of Hope Thrift Store as an earned-revenue component supporting the charitable mission.
Regularly feature interesting merchandise, new arrivals, special sales, seasonal items, donation opportunities, and customer experiences.
Communicate clearly how shopping and donating merchandise to the Thrift Store helps support the work of Harvest of Hope Market and Refuge Outreach Services.
VIDEO & SHORT-FORM CONTENT
Develop regular short-form video content for Instagram Reels, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and similar platforms.
Content may include volunteer spotlights, donor recognition, Market tours, Thrift Store finds, community partnerships, behind-the-scenes operations, event recaps, interviews, and impact stories.
Develop longer-form video content when appropriate for YouTube, donor presentations, fundraising campaigns, and organizational storytelling.
WEBSITE & DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS
Coordinate social media content with the organization’s website and broader communications strategy.
Assist with website updates, digital newsletters, email campaigns, event promotions, and online fundraising communications as assigned.
CONTENT CALENDAR
Maintain a minimum 30-day rolling content calendar.
The calendar should identify planned posts, campaigns, events, video production, photography needs, fundraising initiatives, volunteer recruitment, community stories, and organizational announcements.
ANALYTICS & PERFORMANCE
Monitor social media performance and provide a simple monthly report to leadership.
Reports should track areas such as follower growth, reach, engagement, video views, website traffic generated through social media, volunteer inquiries, donor engagement, campaign performance, and top-performing content.
Use performance information to continually improve the organization’s digital communications strategy.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate should demonstrate experience or strong ability in social media management, digital marketing, communications, public relations, content creation, photography, videography, graphic design, or related fields.
The candidate should also demonstrate:
• Strong writing and editing skills
• Excellent communication skills

• Basic photography and video production skills • Short-form video editing ability

• Strong organizational and time-management skills • Ability to manage multiple social platforms • Understanding of social media analytics

• Professional judgment when representing the organization publicly
Experience working with nonprofits, community organizations, food-access programs, thrift stores, churches, fundraising organizations, or human-service agencies is highly desirable.
TECHNOLOGY & PLATFORM EXPERIENCE
Experience with tools and platforms such as Meta Business Suite, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Canva or similar design software, video-editing applications, email marketing platforms, and social media scheduling tools is preferred.

Within the first 90 days, the Social Media & Digital Communications Coordinator should establish a consistent organizational content calendar, improve posting consistency across platforms, develop a recognizable visual and messaging style, create a regular short-form video strategy, establish baseline analytics, increase community engagement, and begin building measurable growth in followers, volunteers, donors, shoppers, and community partners.
