Stillman Academy is looking for a compassionate, curious educator who is fluent in Spanish and English to help children become confident readers and writers in both languages.

About Stillman Academy

We teach structured literacy using the Slingerland Approach, a multisensory method originally designed for classrooms where students with dyslexia and typical readers learned side by side. Today we serve the same range of students: children with dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and other language-based learning differences, as well as strong readers who are ready to go further. Our instruction blends direct, systematic teaching with hands-on learning, field trips, and community-based exploration.

About the Role

As our Bilingual Structured Literacy Tutor, you will:

• Teach reading, writing, and spelling in Spanish to students who read in Spanish, including students in dual-immersion programs.
• Teach English literacy to Spanish-speaking students.
• Partner with Spanish-speaking families, keeping parents informed and involved in their child's progress.
• Deliver individual and small-group lessons using the Slingerland Approach, with mentorship from certified instructors.

Who We're Looking For

• Fluent in Spanish and English, including reading and writing, since you'll be teaching literacy in both languages.
• Experienced educators and people just beginning their teaching careers are both welcome. We provide the specialized training.
• Patient, warm, and genuinely curious about how children learn to read.

Pay That Grows With You

Pay ranges from $20 to $40 per hour, based on the certifications you hold and your teaching experience. Because Stillman pays for your certification training, you have a clear path to move up the range as you complete each step.

Your Training Is On Us

Stillman Academy pays tuition and materials for the full Slingerland certification path, an investment of $13,500 in your professional development.

• Slingerland Beginning Course · $3,025 + $700 materials · Semester or Summer Term. The foundational course in the Slingerland Approach and the first required step toward certification. Covers the theory of structured literacy and its core multisensory techniques. Earns 6 graduate-level extension credits through the University of San Diego.
• Slingerland Practicum Year 1 · $3,025 · Semester or School Year. Apply the method with real students while planning lessons, delivering instruction, and receiving mentorship from a certified instructor.
• Slingerland Practicum Year 2 · $3,025 · Semester or School Year. Refine your skills while managing instruction more independently, with mentor feedback supporting deeper implementation. Earns 6 graduate-level extension credits through the University of San Diego.
• Slingerland Certification Completion · $3,025 + $700 materials · Summer Term or Final Semester. A capstone experience in which you demonstrate mastery and are formally evaluated. Upon completion, you receive full Slingerland certification.
