City Impact Summer Intern
Youthfront Neighborhood is looking for college students to join a growing ministry in Argentine, a lower-resourced immigrant neighborhood in Kansas City, Kansas. We offer an 8-week paid summer internship ideal for someone who is interested in working with youth and/or learning about Christian community development in a neighborhood setting. Argentine has a long history in Kansas City, Kansas and is a close-knit community with an urban feel. Neighbors care about each other, but lack the resources of surrounding communities.
Interns live alongside local families, run youth day camps and leadership programs, support community partners, and assist ESL and citizenship classes. They engage in day-to-day ways of building bridges where dividing walls have long stood. Through weekly book discussions and spiritual formation practices grounded in daily experiences, interns reflect theologically on reconciliation, what it looks like to get a glimpse of the Kingdom of God across difference, and what it means to work toward justice.
City Impact Summer Interns spend their time serving with nonprofits in the Argentine Neighborhood. You will be assigned a main job focus from the list below but will also serve in different capacities throughout the summer.
- Ministry & Justice: Are you eager to immerse yourself in a vibrant immigrant neighborhood and explore how faith and justice come alive in everyday community life? As an intern, you will spend the summer learning directly from the stories, cultures, and daily realities of the community. You will join neighborhood activities, support community partners, and participate in ministries that walk alongside families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. This internship invites you to grow in empathy, deepen your intercultural understanding, connect your academic interest with real-life experiences, strengthen your Spanish, and consider how your faith calls you to thoughtful, justice-oriented engagement in the world.
- Construction & maintenance: Are you a problem-solver who loves to work with your hands? As a Construction and Maintenance intern, every day is a new adventure – from sprucing up neighborhoods to leading volunteer groups in impactful projects. Perfect for those who enjoy DIY and want to learn more, this role offers ample opportunities to engage with the community and make a real difference. Let's build something great together!
- Children & Youth: Do you have a heart for working with kids and teens? As a Children and Youth intern, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping young minds. Dive into the world of day camps with elementary students, planning exciting activities and outings, or mentor MS/HS students in a youth social entrepreneurship program. Your creativity and passion can ignite a spark in these young lives!
- Communications & Storytelling: Are you a budding photographer or videographer with a knack for storytelling? As a Communications and Storytelling intern, you'll have the unique opportunity to document and share the inspiring stories of our programs and the neighborhood. Your creative vision will bring these stories to life, making a lasting impact. Let's tell the world what we're all about!
- Community Engagement & Events: Do you love bringing people together and imagining what meaningful community events could look like? Support the planning and setup of community events while contributing creative ideas. You will gain hands-on experience with the behind-the-scenes work of a nonprofit ministry in a culturally diverse community. You will also learn how outreach, logistics, and relationship-building come together to better serve and reflect the neighborhood.
