Commercial Market Intelligence Intern

Role Overview

The Commercial Market Intelligence Intern will support the Commercial organization by conducting market, customer, competitor, and industry research and translating findings into actionable insights that support commercial decision-making and growth opportunities.

Working closely with the Commercial team and with mentorship from experienced market intelligence professionals, the intern will gain hands-on experience analyzing the logistics and supply chain landscape, identifying market trends and opportunities, and developing insights that help Commercial teams better understand customers, industries, competitors, and potential areas for growth.

The role combines market research, data analysis, commercial strategy, artificial intelligence, automation, and business communication, providing exposure to how market intelligence and emerging technologies can be applied to real-world commercial opportunities within a global logistics organization.

In addition to day-to-day responsibilities, the intern will complete a manager-assigned Internship Project over the course of the 10-week program and establish individual Intern Goals focused on their professional and technical development.

Key Accountabilities

Market & Industry Intelligence

  • Conduct research on logistics and supply chain markets, industries, customer segments, and emerging trends relevant to Commercial priorities.
  • Monitor industry developments, competitor activity, market dynamics, and macroeconomic factors that may impact customers or commercial opportunities.
  • Gather information from internal and external sources and synthesize findings into concise, actionable insights.
  • Help identify trends, market opportunities, risks, and potential areas for commercial growth.
  • Develop market and industry profiles to improve the Commercial team's understanding of priority sectors and customer segments.

 

Customer & Commercial Insights

  • Conduct research on prospective and existing customers to support account planning, opportunity development, and customer engagement.
  • Develop customer profiles and briefing materials summarizing business activities, supply chain characteristics, strategic priorities, industry developments, and other relevant insights.
  • Support Commercial teams in assessing markets, customer segments, trade lanes, industries, or geographies where growth opportunities may exist.
  • Assist with opportunity sizing and other analyses that support commercial prioritization and decision-making.
  • Help connect external market intelligence with DP World's capabilities and potential customer needs.
  • Support research and analysis for commercial presentations, proposals, account planning, and business development initiatives.

Data Analysis & Visualization

  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative market and commercial data to identify patterns, trends, and insights.
  • Assist with organizing and analyzing datasets using tools such as Excel, Power BI, or similar platforms.
  • Develop charts, dashboards, reports, and presentations that communicate findings clearly to Commercial stakeholders.
  • Help improve how market and commercial intelligence is collected, organized, and shared across the team.
  • Support the development of repeatable research methodologies, trackers, and intelligence resources.

AI, Automation & Intelligence Solutions

  • Explore opportunities to use artificial intelligence and automation to improve how market, customer, competitor, and industry intelligence is collected, analyzed, and shared.
  • Support the development of AI-enabled research workflows that help synthesize information from multiple sources and identify relevant commercial insights.
  • Identify repetitive research, reporting, or data-management activities that could be streamlined or automated.
  • Assist with developing and testing lightweight automation solutions, analytical tools, dashboards, or workflows that improve Commercial team efficiency.
  • Explore ways to use generative AI to support market research, customer intelligence, competitive analysis, data interpretation, and insight generation.
  • Help develop repeatable prompts, templates, research methodologies, or other tools that enable Commercial teams to use AI effectively.
  • Document solutions and recommended practices to support future adoption and scalability across the Commercial organization.

 

Internship Project

Throughout the 10-week internship, the intern will complete a manager-assigned project focused on a relevant commercial opportunity, business challenge, market, customer segment, or area of strategic interest.

The Internship Project will serve as the intern's primary assignment throughout the program and will require the intern to apply research, analytical, problem-solving, project management, and communication skills to a real business need.

The intern will work with their manager and relevant stakeholders throughout the program to develop their analysis and recommendations and will present their final project during Week 10.

The specific project scope will be determined by the intern's manager based on current Commercial priorities.

 

Intern Goals

At the beginning of the program, the intern will establish individual Intern Goals identifying skills or capabilities they would like to develop throughout the internship.

Goals may focus on areas such as:

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Business, Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Data Analytics, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources and communicate key findings clearly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Curiosity about markets, industries, customers, and business strategy.
  • Interest in logistics, supply chain, transportation, and global trade.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Interest in learning and applying new technologies to business challenges.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar data analysis and visualization tools.
  • Experience conducting market, industry, competitor, or company research through coursework, internships, or extracurricular activities.
  • Comfort working with both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Exposure to financial, market, or commercial analysis.
  • Familiarity with logistics, transportation, supply chain, or international trade concepts.
  • Interest in commercial strategy, business development, market intelligence, or consulting.
  • Interest in generative AI, automation, and emerging technologies and their application to business and commercial challenges.
  • Exposure to generative AI tools, prompt development, Microsoft Power Automate, or similar automation platforms.
