We are searching for a Health and Safety Intern to join our Summer 2027 cohort. We are looking for a highly motivated Health and Safety Intern to join our team. The intern will assist in promoting and ensuring a safe working environment by supporting the Health and Safety team in implementing safety programs, conducting audits, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. This role offers a hands-on learning opportunity for individuals interested in workplace safety, risk management, and regulatory compliance. 

Important Considerations: 

  • Location: Charlotte, NC
  • Hybrid role: 4-days onsite, 1-day remote
  • 10-week program: Summer 2027, May 31 to June 6
  • Department: Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE)

 

AREAS OF FOCUS 

  • Assist in conducting safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA and other safety regulations. 
  • Support the team in developing, reviewing, and updating health and safety policies, procedures, and training materials. 
  • Help coordinate and facilitate safety training sessions for employees on topics such as proper use of equipment, emergency procedures, and hazard communication. 
  • Participate in incident investigations, helping to gather data and identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences. 
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of safety audits, training logs, incident reports, and safety performance metrics. 
  • Work closely with different departments to promote a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement. 
  • Research new safety regulations, best practices, and industry standards to ensure the company remains compliant with evolving health and safety laws. 
  • Participate in emergency response planning and drills, ensuring procedures are well communicated and practiced across the organization. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS 

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field from an accredited university. 
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and provide actionable recommendations. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Previous internship or work experience in a health and safety role or related field. 
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, environmental health regulations, and safety compliance requirements. 
  • Familiarity with incident reporting software or safety management systems.
