Camp Counselor & Leadership Internship – Summer 2027

About the Position

Counselors are the heart of our camps. You’ll live and work alongside campers throughout the summer, helping create a safe, supportive, and fun environment where kids can build confidence, try new things, make friends, and have an unforgettable summer.

This is an immersive overnight camp position. Counselors serve as mentors, role models, and primary caretakers for a group of campers while participating fully in daily camp life.

Counselors will:

• Serve as a primary caretaker and mentor for a group of campers, supporting their day-to-day safety and physical and emotional well-being
• Live alongside campers in a cabin and actively participate in cabin life
• Build positive relationships with campers and help create an inclusive, supportive environment
• Participate in activities, special events, trips, traditions, and other aspects of the camp program
• Work closely with fellow counselors and camp leadership as part of a collaborative staff team
• Communicate clearly and consistently with leadership regarding camper needs and concerns
• Help campers navigate challenges, build confidence, develop independence, and make the most of their summer
• Bring energy and enthusiasm to the traditions, friendships, and experiences that make camp memorable
• Learn and follow all camp policies and procedures, including safety and emergency protocols

Qualifications

• At least 18 years old by the start of employment
• Compassionate, enthusiastic, patient, hardworking, and dependable
• Comfortable working with children and living in a close-knit community
• Able to work both independently and as part of a team
• Willing to take on responsibility, try new things, and contribute wherever needed
• Previous camp or professional experience working with children is helpful, but not required
• Most importantly, excited to positively impact the lives of campers and become an active part of the camp community

Working at camp is more than a summer job. Every summer, thousands of children come to our camps for a summer filled with fun, friendship, independence, and growth—and our counselors are at the center of that experience.

Over the course of the summer, you’ll build leadership, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills while gaining hands-on experience mentoring and working with children. You’ll take on new challenges, form friendships with people from around the country and the world, and become part of a community unlike a typical summer workplace.

Staff working at our overnight camps are required to live at camp and reside in cabins alongside their campers. This is an immersive residential position, and counselors participate fully in the camp community throughout the summer.

Positions generally run from approximately the second week of June through the first week of August, with exact dates varying by camp and position.

Compensation is approximately $2,000–$2,700 for the summer, depending on position and experience. Housing, meals, a travel stipend, comprehensive staff training, and scheduled days off are also included.
