Undergraduate Research Assistant
The Vargis Research Lab in the Department of Biological Engineering at Utah State University invites applications for an undergraduate research assistant position. The research assistant will work closely with Dr. Elizabeth Vargis and graduate students to develop membranes and other biomaterials for in vitro disease modeling and platform validation, with applications in ocular, neurological, and cardiovascular diseases. Responsibilities may include biomaterial fabrication, cell culture, laboratory testing, data collection, and analysis. Successful candidates will work an average of ~10 hours each week. On-Campus ACA Variable US Work Authorization is REQUIRED.
Required Qualifications:
Background in biological engineering, biomedical engineering, biology, chemistry, or a related field.
GPA > 3.0.
Experience working with protein-based biomaterials, including familiarity with and understanding of hagfish slime protein biomaterials.
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn laboratory techniques.
Expected Starting Date: October 1, 2026
Salary: $15-17.20 per hour depending on experience
