Student Engagement Graduate Assistant

Student Engagement 

Office of Student Engagement at the University of Northern Colorado’s will help facilitate daily operations and support all Student Activities programs/ councils. Responsibilities include working with all Student Activities events/ program needs (Clubs/Orgs, FSL, SGA and UPC), Marketing on BearConnect/ social media outreach and weekly meetings with supervisor. In addition, assist Student Activities professional staff with tabling, special projects, and marketing designs.   

 

Primary responsibility  

Assist Executive Director of Student Engagement and the Director of Student Activities with Providing support to Clubs/organizations, support Student Government Association, University Programs Council,  and voting coalition, assist with all event planning and executing including marketing and training.  

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Student Engagement Graduate Assistant  is responsible for assisting the Student Engagement Office achieve departmental goals. 

The position has an expected time commitment of an average of 18/hours/week, including office hours, meetings, and program attendance 

Some evenings (depending on schedule) and weekend hours will be necessary 

The Graduate Assistant must understand the dynamics of a small university setting and be a committed member of the UNC Department of Student Activities 

Assistance with Student Government Association, University Programs Council, Fraternity/ Sorority Life and Orientation including leadership, management, and execution of programs with direct support from OSE staff.  

Event Management: Assist with the planning, execution, and on-site management of large- and small-scale events, including organization fairs, concerts, speakers, Homecoming festivities, and signature programs.  

Student Organization Support: Provide guidance and support to student organizations through registration processes, constitution reviews, outreach initiatives, and program development workshops. 

Marketing & Communication: Contribute to the marketing and communication efforts of the department and student organizations through social media management, listservs, departmental newsletters, and promotional materials. 

Program Development & Assessment: Conduct research and assessment to evaluate the effectiveness of various programs and services offered by SA. 

Other duties as assigned.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: 

As a result of successful completion of the Fraternity & Sorority Life Graduate Assistantship, the student will:    

 

Demonstrate advising and helping skills related to analyzing group dynamics, facilitating group decision-making and goal setting, manage conflict, appropriately mentor students and staff, and exhibit strong active listening skills. 

 

Identify systematic barriers to equality and inclusiveness to advocate for and implement means of addressing these obstacles. 

 

Explain how one’s professional practice aligns with both one’s personal code of ethics and ethical statements in the field of Higher Education  
 

Model appropriate and effective techniques for supervising student and professional staff related to issues of morale, behavioral expectations, conflict resolution, and performance issues. 

 

Apply advanced leadership skills pertaining to motivating, influencing, inspiring, and empowering others to contribute to the effectiveness and success of an organization. 

 

COMPENSATION: 

This position is remunerated with graduate, in-state tuition for up to 10 credit hours per semester and a stipend for 18 hours work weekly and begins in early August of each calendar year. The actual amount of the tuition and/or stipend is individually calculated for Master’s or Doctorate degree students.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Bachelor’s degree and full-time enrollment in a University of Northern Colorado Graduate School program   

Previous leadership or other experience in working with student government,  Fraternity & Sorority students and/or student organizations.   

High degree of organization, strong administrative, and communication skills 

Proficiency in Microsoft Office
