POSITION PURPOSE: Supports golf instruction, player development, and related golf programming at Indian Tree Golf Club. Works alongside professional golf staff to gain hands-on experience assisting with junior and adult instruction, clinics, camps, individual lessons, player-development programs, and on-course instruction. Provides support for the administrative and operational responsibilities associated with delivering quality golf programming at a public golf facility. This internship is designed to provide meaningful professional development for an individual interested in pursuing a career in golf instruction, PGA Golf Management, recreation, sports management, or the golf industry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists golf professionals with individual and group golf instruction for participants of varying ages and skill levels. 

Supports junior golf camps and clinics, adult programs, beginner programs, and other player-development initiatives. 

Assists with instruction in putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play, full swing, course management, rules, etiquette, and pace of play. 

Prepares instructional areas, equipment, training aids, range balls, and other materials prior to programs and lessons. 

Assists with participant check-in, group organization, instructional stations, and program transitions. 

Provides basic instructional feedback to participants under the direction of professional golf staff. 

Assists with on-course instruction on the Par-3 and regulation golf courses. 

Helps create a positive, encouraging, safe, and welcoming learning environment for golfers of different ages, abilities, skill levels, and backgrounds. 

Assists with adaptive golf and other programs designed to make golf accessible to a broad range of participants. 

Assists staff in developing golf clinics, camps, leagues, lesson plans, instructional activities, and other player-development opportunities. 

Helps evaluate existing programs and identifies opportunities to improve the participant experience. 

Supports player-development efforts for juniors, beginners, women, seniors, and other developing golfers. 

Assists with utilizing the driving range, practice facilities, and Par-3 course as player-development resources. 

Assists with program registration, participation tracking, attendance, participant feedback, and program evaluation. 

Supports marketing and communication efforts related to golf programs and instructional opportunities. 

Maintains clean, organized, safe, and professional instructional and practice areas. 

Consistently represents the Indian Tree Way – Intentional Hospitality, Operational Excellence, and Making It Work when interacting with participants, guests, and coworkers.

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Gains exposure to golf shop operations, outside operations, tee-sheet management, pace of play, tournament operations, customer service, and daily golf course operations. 

Learns policies and procedures related to golf instruction, course access, range operations, safety, and guest service. 

Gains an understanding of golf program pricing, budgeting, revenue generation, expense management, and other business aspects of operating a public golf facility. 

Assists with golf shop and outside operations as assigned to gain a broader understanding of golf facility operations. 

Works with professional golf staff to establish internship learning goals and participates in ongoing coaching and feedback. 

May be given increasing responsibility for planning and delivering portions of clinics or instructional programs under the supervision of professional golf staff. 

Develops practical experience in golf instruction and coaching techniques, junior and adult programming, player development, customer service and hospitality, program management and evaluation, and public-sector golf operations. 

Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES: This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities. May assist with organizing and directing participants during camps, clinics, lessons, and other instructional activities under the supervision of professional golf staff.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS -KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Working knowledge of golf fundamentals, rules, etiquette, and pace of play. 

Interest in golf instruction, player development, golf operations, and the golf industry. 

Ability to effectively communicate with children, adults, guests, and coworkers. 

Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. 

Ability to create a positive and welcoming experience for program participants. 

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. 

Ability to follow direction and work within the scope of assigned responsibilities and training.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Interest in golf instruction, PGA Golf Management, recreation, sports management, education, coaching, or a related field. Working knowledge of golf fundamentals, rules, and etiquette. Experience or demonstrated ability working effectively with children and adults. CPR/AED/First Aid certification or ability to obtain certification as required.

Preferred Qualifications: Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a PGA Golf Management, recreation, sports management, education, kinesiology, business, or related program. Previous experience working at a golf course, driving range, golf camp, recreation program, or instructional setting. Previous experience working with children or youth programs. Interest in pursuing PGA membership or a career in golf instruction, player development, or golf operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments at Indian Tree Golf Club, including the golf shop, driving range, practice facilities, Par-3 course, and regulation golf courses. Work may be performed in varying weather and environmental conditions. The position requires regular interaction with children, adults, program participants, guests, and other employees in an active public recreation environment.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: Position requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including walking on uneven outdoor terrain and golf course surfaces. Requires frequent bending, reaching, and movement associated with demonstrating golf skills, setting up instructional areas, and assisting with programs. Must be able to handle, move, and set up golf equipment, training aids, range balls, and other instructional materials and equipment.

TRAVEL: Limited travel may be required for meetings, training, programs, or other District-related activities.
