Front Desk Associate

Title:   Front Desk Associate - Intern

Approximate Start/Duration and Any Standard Hours

  • October 2026-December 2026 (would consider extending to winter 2027 as well)
  • Available to work during museum open hours (Thu/Fri/Sat 10-6, Sun 12-5).   Not all those hours but PTM would like to schedule you 10-16 hrs per week
  • Occasionally will request help/availability supporting private events in non-standard hours.

 

Role Description:

  • This individual operates PTM’s front desk during museum open hours.   Welcomes and orients visitors
  • Operates point-of-sale system for admissions, merchandise sales, returns/exchanges.   Assists with e-commerce fulfillment.
  • Summons other museum staff and pairs visitors up with museum docent when appropriate
  • Answers incoming calls – and directs messages or contacts as appropriate.  Maintains order/cleanliness of immediate entry/merchandise area of museum.
  • Responsible for daily sales opening/closing records
  • This role has significant “downtime” when patron traffic is light – acceptable to bring interruptible reading or school work
  • As associate grows in this role, will ask their involvement in social media and marketing work during business hours

 

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Personable and comfortable initiating conversation with all ages/types of visitors
  • Sophomore or above preferred
  • Critical to be punctual, timely and dependable – museum is lightly staffed!  Clearly will need personal transportation.
  • Although a non-profit organization, this is a similar experience to what would be seen in a small retail storefront – candidate with retail “sales” experience preferred
  • Interest in automotive and community history preferred
  • Previous experience with point of sale systems preferred.   Very light accounting and arithmetic required.
