Aftercare Teacher Assistant

Overview

Join our vibrant educational team as an Aftercare Teacher Assistant, where your enthusiasm and dedication will make a lasting impact on children ages 3-12. In this role, you will support classroom activities, supervise children during after-school hours, and help create a safe, engaging environment that promotes growth and development. Your energy and compassion will help foster a positive atmosphere where children feel valued and supported. This position runs M-F from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., not including holidays or school breaks. This is a permanent position during the school year (August-May). We will fill this position as soon as possible.

Responsibilities

• Monitor students during indoor and outdoor play, snack times, transitions, and dismissal. Ensure all safety rules are followed and administer first aid, as needed.
• Assist with check-in and check-out of students, making sure parents sign their child out during pickup.
• Help organize and lead activities.
• Prepare, serve, and clean up after daily snacks. Ensure children wash their hands before eating snacks.
• Use positive guidance, redirection, and conflict-resolution strategies to address behavioral issues. Keep HOS informed of any incident reports with parents.
• Greet parents or guardians during pick-up and share updates regarding behavior, as needed. Share any incident or accident reports with parents.
• Assist lead teacher in managing classroom routines and behavior management strategies to ensure a structured and nurturing environment.
• Support children with their individual needs, including those requiring special education accommodations or behavioral support.
• Implement safety protocols such as first aid procedures and CPR when necessary to ensure the well-being of all children.
• Keep supplies organized and rooms tidy at the end of the shift, which includes vacuuming and sanitizing.
• Ensure the entire building is secured and lights are turned off when leaving a shift.

Skills

• Strong classroom management skills with the ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
• Experience working with children in educational or childcare settings, including daycare or babysitting roles.
• Knowledge of childhood development principles and behavior management techniques.
• First aid/CPR certification along with familiarity with first aid protocols to respond effectively in emergencies.
• Ability to facilitate outdoor work activities safely while engaging children in physical play and exploration.
• Excellent communication skills for working collaboratively with staff, parents, and children of diverse backgrounds.

• Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
• Expected hours: No more than 15.0 per week
• Experience:
• Childcare: 2 years (Preferred)
• License/Certification:
• Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED (AHA) (Preferred)
• Work Location: In person.
