Backend Software Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for an early-career backend engineer to join our team in person at our New York City office and help build our product from zero to one. You will work side by side with senior engineers who will mentor you, review your code, and give you real ownership from your first weeks.

Your projects will include building integrations into enterprise systems, large-scale scraping, contributing to systems that let users generate sales insights with LLMs at scale, and processing and deriving insights from millions of public documents.

You might be a fit if you:

  • Are a recent graduate or have 1 to 3 years of experience as a software engineer (full-time roles, internships, research, or serious personal projects all count).
  • Have strong computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, and databases.
  • Have written real code in Java, Kotlin, or another typed backend language, and are excited to go deep on the JVM.
  • Are excited to roll up your sleeves, work in all parts of the backend, and learn fast on a small team.
  • Want to work in person in NYC with a team that moves quickly.
  • Bonus if you have exposure to any of our stack:
    • Kotlin (BE)
    • GCP
    • Google Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL
    • Firebase
    • Python
  • Also a plus (not required):
    • Natural Language Generation
    • API integrations
    • Prompt Engineering
    • Web Scraping & Parsing

INTERVIEW PROCESS

After you apply, the team reviews your resume and your most exceptional work. If your application passes this stage, you will be invited to a 30-minute interview where a member of our team will make sure you're a good fit for the role. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the role as well.

We'll then send you a programming challenge that consists of two parts: LeetCode and SQL. Beyond that step, you will enter the main process, which consists of three interviews:

  1. System design exercise hands-on.
  2. Live coding in Java/Kotlin.
  3. Product thinking and past work.

Our goal is to finish the process within one week. Interviews are conducted via Google Meet and onsite in our NYC office.
