Position Overview

Birch Agency is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to support students in a self-contained K–2 classroom serving students with moderate disabilities in Chester, South Carolina.

This opportunity is ideal for an educator who is passionate about providing individualized instruction, creating a structured and supportive classroom environment, and helping young students develop academically, socially, behaviorally, and independently.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).




• Provide individualized and differentiated instruction based on student needs and IEP goals.




• Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, accommodations, and assessments to support student learning.




• Provide instruction in a self-contained classroom setting.




• Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation and progress reports.




• Implement positive behavior supports and effective classroom management strategies.




• Support students with moderate disabilities across academic, behavioral, social, and developmental areas.




• Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, administrators, families, and related service providers.




• Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and professional development activities.




• Foster a structured, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.




• Promote student independence and participation in classroom and school activities.




• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and district special education requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field preferred.




• Active South Carolina Special Education certification required or eligibility to obtain certification.




• Experience working in a self-contained special education classroom preferred.




• Experience supporting students with moderate disabilities is a plus.




• Experience working with elementary-aged students, particularly K–2, preferred.




• Strong classroom management and behavior support skills.




• Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.




• Ability to develop and implement effective IEP-based instruction.
