Science Instructor Assistant

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dependable Science Instructor Assistant to support our Science Instructors in delivering fun, engaging, and hands-on science experiences for students of different ages. This is a call-based, part-time staff position with our growing team.

In this role, you will assist with preparing materials, setting up experiments, supporting students during activities, maintaining a safe and organized learning environment, and helping ensure programs run smoothly. Programs may include in-school field trips, science assemblies, after-school programs, Science Birthday Parties, and camps.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, has an interest in science and education, and wants to gain hands-on experience in STEM instruction and youth programming. Training and program guidance will be provided.

Responsibilities

Assist Science Instructors with delivering hands-on science lessons, experiments, demonstrations, and activities

Prepare, organize, and distribute science materials and equipment before each program

Assist with classroom, event, and activity setup and cleanup

Support students during experiments and activities by providing guidance, encouragement, and age-appropriate assistance

Help maintain a positive, engaging, inclusive, and well-managed learning environment

Reinforce instructions and help students follow activity procedures and safety guidelines

Assist with multiple program formats, including birthday parties, school programs, science assemblies, after-school programs, and camps

Monitor students during activities and help maintain appropriate behavior and participation

Assist with attendance, materials inventory, supply organization, and other basic program records as needed

Help load, unload, transport, organize, and care for instructional materials and equipment

Communicate professionally with Science Instructors, students, parents, teachers, school staff, and other team members

Follow established lesson plans, company procedures, safety requirements, and instructor directions

Support the Science Instructor with demonstrations, transitions between activities, and overall program flow

Participate in training and team development activities to improve instructional and classroom-support skills

Experience & Qualifications

Interest in science, STEM education, teaching, or working with children

Previous experience working with children in a school, camp, childcare, tutoring, recreation, after-school, or educational setting is preferred but not required

Basic understanding of scientific concepts and a willingness to learn new science activities

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to follow lesson plans, instructions, procedures, and safety guidelines

Dependable, punctual, organized, and able to work effectively as part of a team

Energetic and comfortable interacting with groups of children

Ability to adapt to different age groups, learning styles, and program environments

Willingness to assist with setup, cleanup, materials preparation, and other hands-on program duties

Ability to maintain a professional and positive attitude when working with students, families, schools, and team members

Preferred Qualifications

College coursework or current enrollment in education, biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, engineering, or another STEM-related field

Experience with camps, after-school programs, youth organizations, tutoring, classroom assistance, or enrichment programs

Experience assisting with hands-on experiments, demonstrations, or STEM activities
