Position: Outreach Coordinator 

Full time: 37.5 to 40 hours weekly, with frequent evening and weekend hours

Program:  Tax Program

Reports to: Program Director

Salary: $55,000-$60,000 depending on experience

Tax Program

 

We are the most established free tax preparation community-based organization in the Bronx, with 14 sites, including three-year-round locations. We help eligible New York City residents file their tax returns and claim credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit. Since 2003, we have prepared free tax returns for more than 152,000 clients, returning over $239 million in total refunds to underserved communities.

All of Ariva’s tax program staff and volunteers are IRS-certified. All of our tax sites are sponsored by the IRS VITA program.

Position Description

We are seeking an Outreach Coordinator to work on the ground in Bronx neighborhoods where our tax sites are located to promote our program with Ariva’s target clients (lower income Bronx residents living and working in the communities where our sites are located). The outreach coordinator will also assist in scheduling appointments,

The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, outgoing. ability to work independently, and be equally enthusiastic about scheduling logistics and community engagement

Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct outreach activities to promote Ariva services throughout the community.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, faith-based groups, and other referral partners.
  • Organize and conduct outreach presentations and information sessions.
  • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities and referral sources.
  • Monitor site capacity and appointment availability to maximize service delivery.
  • Coordinate outreach campaigns through print, email, social media, and community events.
  • Support tax site operations by ensuring clients receive timely information about required documents and appointment procedures.
  • Track outreach metrics and prepare reports on appointment volume, referrals, and community engagement efforts.
  • Attend community events, resource fairs, and partner meetings to increase awareness of free tax preparation services.
  • Respond professionally to client concerns and help resolve scheduling conflicts.

 

Experience 

  • Three years experience in outreach, preferably in a community-based setting
  • A college degree is not required, but a Bachelors degree may substitute for 1 year experience.

 

Core Competencies 

 

 

  • The Coordinator must pass the IRS Intake, Standards of Conduct, and Intake/Quality Review Certifications. (Ariva will provide training.)
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and detail oriented.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor; adherence to Ariva’s dress code (business casual).
  • Basic computer and phone skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for helping the community 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and community engagement.
  • Flexible schedule, including availability for evenings and Saturdays through the year.

 

Schedule

37.5 to 40 hours weekly, with frequent evening and weekend hours, especially during the busy income tax filing season. Ths position is full in person in various neighborhoods throughout the Bronx
