Marketing Communications Intern

Organization Overview

The Center for Better Aging (CBA) is a healthcare collaborative funded through the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services’ Healthcare Transformation Collaboratives (HTC) grant. Our mission is to transform health outcomes, nurture well-being, and reduce inequities for adults over 50 in Chicago’s Greater South Side community through whole-person care. This internship offers students in public health and other related fields the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community outreach, member engagement, and health equity initiatives within a dynamic and impactful organization.
 

Position Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and creative Marketing Communications Intern to join our team with a specific focus on managing marketing tasks and action items. This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in project management, digital marketing, and content promotion, within the rapidly growing marketing communications space. This internship provides experience in brand development while contributing to the growth and success of a startup nonprofit organization. This intern should be passionate about storytelling, content creation, and engaging with online communities.
Core Responsibilities

Marketing Project Management

- Assist with maintaining CBA’s content calendar, including planning upcoming content, drafting social media captions, and scheduling posts.

- Complete projects related to brand development and marketing communications.

- Support website updates and maintenance, including content updates, page edits, link checks, and other website-related marketing tasks.

- Monitor website analytics and performance data, identify notable trends or changes, and communicate key insights and observations to the Marketing Manager.

- Apply marketing concepts to solve organizational challenges.

- Assist with Google Ads campaign development, including drafting ad copy, monitoring campaign performance, and helping interpret key metrics and trends to identify opportunities for improvement.

- Create and capture content for future marketing campaigns.

- Monitor member satisfaction levels and feedback on their experience with CBA.

- Gather content from internal team members and external partners to develop bi-monthly newsletter.

Social Media & YouTube Channel Management

- Support the production of marketing assets, such as trailers, teasers, and highlight clips for YouTube videos.

- Assist with social media community management, including monitoring and responding to comments, questions, and audience feedback across CBA’s social platforms.

- Coordinate social media postings from CBA marketing team to amplify YouTube content across various platforms.

- Analyze YouTube analytics to track performance trends and target audience behavior.

- Assist with social media performance reporting, including gathering platform analytics, tracking key performance indicators, identifying trends, and summarizing results for the Marketing Manager.

- Review trending topics and opportunities to engage with the audience on CBA’s social media platforms.

- Capture footage to promote on CBA’s YouTube channel.

- Offer planning and execution strategies to grow CBA’s YouTube channel’s subscriber base and viewership.

- Engage with the YouTube community by responding to comments, messages, and feedback.

- Research competitor brand activity to identify trends, competitor strategies, and audience preferences in the YouTube space.

Communication & Storytelling

- Contribute innovative ideas that can enhance CBA’s member engagement and brand awareness.

- Collaborate with external affairs and fundraising consultants to align CBA messaging for growth efforts.

- Capture marketing content and images at CBA community events.

- Support teams to plan, develop, and execute marketing materials and campaigns to increase exposure to CBA.

- Assist in creating compelling video thumbnails, titles, and descriptions to maximize visibility and click-through rates.

Administrative Support

- Email new leads and resource links to CBA Marketing Manager.

- Support the preparation for marketing meetings and brand development review sessions.

- Work with the CBA Marketing Manager to identify opportunities for process improvement and workflow development.

- Provide support for virtual and in-person events to take pictures/videos to promote on CBA’s social media pages.

- Perform other duties as assigned.
 

Qualifications

Required Education

- Current student or recent graduate of a marketing, media, or related program at University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC), Chicago State University (CSU), Kennedy-King College, or one of the City Colleges of Chicago.

Skills & Competencies

- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms, and digital marketing tools.

- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with diverse individuals and groups.

- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

- Basic understanding of social media and website analytics and digital marketing performance metrics.

- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed to cover events.

- Passion for marketing communications and brand development.

- Passion for community service and social impact.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.

Reporting Structure
The Marketing Communications Intern reports directly to the Marketing Manager and collaborates with other team members and partners to enhance marketing communications efforts.
