Job Purpose:

Provide support for Salem’s Children’s Spiritual Formation programs. Responsible for nurturing the faith development of children ages 6 months to 5th grade in age-appropriate classrooms, creating a strong foundation for their Christian formation. Establish strong relationships with parents to help nurture families and children in building their relationship with Christ. 

Major Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Carry out the Children’s Spiritual Formation program, ensuring alignment to the church vision.  
  • In partnership with the pastoral team, lead lessons for Kids Connect (Salem’s Sunday morning kids’ program) that are consistent with United Methodist theology and beliefs and the vision of the church to connect all people with God’s extravagant love.
  • Welcome children and their families into classrooms, ensuring that children have been properly checked in.
  • Maintain children’s ministry spaces by following sanitization and safety protocols, and communicate needs and issues to the Children and Youth Pastor.
  • Ensure proper procedures are followed in children’s ministry, including but not limited to: Safe Gatherings certification, proper classroom ratios, appropriate supervision of children, active engagement with children, and no cell phone use while children are present.
  • Create a nurturing environment to encourage spiritual growth for children and their parents and provide a safe, clean, and nurturing place to develop their early Christian education. 
  • Communicate with the Welcome and Volunteer Coordinator in regard to schedule and hours.

 

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

Required:

  • A strong Christian faith and a personal growing relationship with Jesus Christ
  • A basic understanding and respect for United Methodist theology 
  • Strong interpersonal skills: ability to build relationships with children and parents
  • A passion and heartfelt concern for children 
  • A dynamic teacher (able to teach the Christian faith & fundamental Christian values)
  • Ability to effectively manage time 
  • Ability to pass a background check
