Digital Infrastructure/Cybersecurity

Digital Infrastructure & Security (Part-Time, Paid, Remote)
Harbinger Shield LLC · Tabb, VA

Hey, I'm Doug. I spent about ten years in federal service, most of it as an FBI Special Agent. When I pulled duty desk, I'd sit across from older folks who'd just lost their savings to a scam, and the honest truth is the system didn't have much to offer them by the time they got to us. Harbinger Shield is my answer to that: fraud prevention for older adults and the community banks that serve them, with real people in the loop, not just software.

We're early. Small team, engineers getting started on the core product. What I need now is someone to build and lock down everything around it, the stuff a bank's security team will poke at before they ever trust us.

What you'd actually do

  • Turn harbingershield.com from a placeholder into a real, fast, secure site
  • Build out our LinkedIn company page properly
  • Own our Google Workspace setup: MFA everywhere, admin roles, email authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), sharing and device policies
  • Write our baseline security practices in plain English (access, offboarding, what we do if something goes wrong)
  • Tell me when something looks risky. I'd rather hear it from you than from a bank.

Who I'm looking for

  • Studying cybersecurity, IT, information systems, or CS, or you just can't stop tinkering
  • You've built or secured something real and can show me (GitHub, live site, homelab, CTF results, whatever)
  • You understand a marketing website is still an attack surface
  • You say what you'll do, you do it, and you tell me when you're stuck

The details

  • $17.50 to $22.50/hour, depending on experience
  • Bonuses for exceptional work
  • 10 to 15 hours a week, flexible around classes/other life commitments
  • Remote. If you're in Hampton Roads, coffee's on me.
  • First project runs about 3 to 5 weeks, with room to grow if it's a fit
  • We aren't able to sponsor work visas at this time
  • Early day of a startup… opportunity to join at the ground floor!

To apply

  • Your resume
  • Cover letter (I read these word for word, I can tell when somebody's thought about the position/company, when somebody uses 100% AI, and when somebody is applying to 2,000 jobs a week)
  • A link to something you've built or locked down
  • 3 to 5 sentences on a time you found a hole in something (yours, or someone else's with permission). Short and real beats long and polished.

I'm closing this after the first 30 applications, so don't sit on it.
