Summary of Work
The Bridge Division Intern supports three core functional areas of the division: Bridge Design, Preliminary Engineering & Hydraulics, and Bridge Management. This internship provides hands-on experience with engineering design tasks, hydraulic analysis, project scoping, and statewide bridge asset management. Interns gain exposure to real-world DOT workflows, technical standards, and multidisciplinary coordination.

•    Assist Bridge Design staff with plan preparation, drafting, and review of structural details.
•    Support Preliminary Engineering & Hydraulics by helping gather site data, reviewing drainage information, and preparing basic hydraulic inputs.
•    Contribute to Bridge Management activities, including data entry, structure file updates, and condition-rating review.
•    Help evaluate project corridors and structure needs during early scoping stages.
•    Participate in field visits to bridges, box culverts, and pipe culverts to observe inspection, design, or hydraulic considerations.
•    Use laptop and engineering software to support documentation and analysis.
•    Assist with organizing design standards, manuals, and reference materials.
•    Attend team meetings and learn how design, hydraulics, and management coordinate across the project lifecycle.

Minimum Qualifications
•    Must be enrolled in engineering technology, civil/construction engineering or similar undergraduate degree program.
•    Requires ability to lift and carry a total weight of up to 50 pounds.
•    Possession of a valid Class D Driver’s License for travel within the state of North Dakota.

Requires satisfactory completion of the interview process and successful completion of a job function screening.
