About Komon & Komonil
We are building the bridge between regenerative agriculture in the Toledo District of Belize and the US commercial cosmetic market. Komon operates on the ground in Central America, driving local economic development through native stingless bee apiculture. Komonil is our US-based commercial arm, formulating luxury skincare using this enzymatically active honey. As we scale our apiaries from 400 to 2,500 hives by 2029 and build a digital repository for the Q'eqchi' and Mopan Maya languages, we are recruiting an exclusive internship cohort from UT Austin, St. Edward’s, TAMU-CC, and TAMU-SA. Texas is a premier hub for international trade, and we want high-autonomy builders from its top universities to help architect our cross-border enterprise.
The Role
Combining TAMU-CC's strength in coastal/environmental management with St. Edward’s focus on mission-driven impact, this role is critical to our ethos. You will build the frameworks that prove our social enterprise is driving true ecological regeneration. You will ensure that our rapid agricultural scale enhances, rather than depletes, the native Toledo District ecosystem, acting as the bridge between commercial expansion and environmental stewardship.
Core Responsibilities
- Model the environmental impact of large-scale stingless bee apiary expansion on native flora and wild pollinator competition.
- Design sustainable harvest protocols for stingless bee honey and supporting agricultural infrastructure.
- Establish baseline metrics for local biodiversity to track the long-term ecological benefits of our apiary operations.
- Support the integration of local indigenous knowledge into our environmental management practices and operational SOPs.
The Ideal Candidate
- Pursuing a degree in Environmental Management, Sustainability Studies, or Ecology.
- Passionate about conservation and skilled in environmental impact modeling or biodiversity tracking.
- Dedicated to the principles of sustainable, community-led resource management.
