Based part-time in the Troy, MI Tech Center, this role reports directly to the Senior Product Manager and is responsible for supporting engineering validation and product development by assembling and calibrating test systems, conducting mechanical and environmental testing, troubleshooting component failures, analyzing root causes, documenting test results, and maintaining specialized laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable performance data.
Basic Function
- Hands-on engineering experience supporting distribution and operational processes within a global organization.
- Exposure to continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and root cause problem-solving techniques.
- Experience analyzing operational data to identify trends, improve efficiency, reduce waste and support business objectives.
- Participation in process improvement projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance productivity, quality, safety, and cost performance.
- Exposure engineering project management, including planning, execution, tracking, and reporting of project milestones and results.

- Practical experience with manufacturing systems, production processes, equipment optimization, and workflow design.

Main duties and responsibilities:
- Assemble, install, and calibrate mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic test setups according to engineering specifications.
- Execute rigorous environmental, durability, thermal, and lifecycle testing on various vehicle components and systems.
- Inspect tested parts to identify the root cause of component defects, structural cracks, or electrical malfunctions.
- Document results by maintaining detailed logs, taking failure photos, and compiling data sheets for engineering review.
- Perform routine calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting on specialized lab test fixtures and machinery.
Knowledge and qualification:
- Junior or senior standing college student currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, with an anticipated graduation date of Spring 2027 or later.
- Available to work at least 20 hours per week during the academic year, with increased availability during summer months.
- Must have successfully completed Engineering Mathematics coursework (Calculus, Differential Equations, or equivalent coursework) and college-level English Composition/Writing courses.
- High performing student with strong GPAs of 3.0 or above, who are completing 12 or more credits during regular semesters.
- Proven ability to read and accurately interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and electrical schematics.
- Competence with standard hand tools, multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
