Communications Manager
Summary
Hours: 20-25 hours per week during 43 weeks of church year (early September through mid-June). From mid-June through August, hours are significantly reduced (3-5 hours per week, very flexible).
Salary range: $32,000 – $35,000, depending on background and experience.
Salaried, non-exempt.
W-2.

Position Overview
The First Parish in Lincoln (FPL) is a multi-generational, open and welcoming community church located 20 minutes west of Cambridge. The Communications Manager (CM) manages First Parish in Lincoln’s communications across print, social media, digital platforms, and worship technology. The CM ensures that information is shared clearly and consistently, supporting both internal communication and outreach to the wider community. The CM makes use of our font, logo, and color scheme to help us communicate our values boldly and brightly.
The CM works alongside staff and lay leaders to ensure clear, consistent, and engaging communication throughout the church.
Digital Communications (40%)
E-blast Newsletters
-Create, edit and distribute weekly e-blasts (“News Briefs”), including the larger monthly “Parish News.” Work with ministers and committees to create updated blurbs for upcoming events.
-Create, edit and distribute monthly Social Action newsletter.
Photos and videos
-Maintain database of photos and videos of church life. Work with lay volunteer photographers to capture church events for use across communications platforms.
-Film and edit short videos to spotlight FPL projects and help tell the story of our church.
-Facilitate communication among FPL’s ministers, lay leaders, and committees to ensure aligned messaging to the congregation and wider community.
Print Media (30%)
Worship Bulletins
-Format bulletins for weekly Sunday morning services, alternative services, and special services.
-Ensure correct spelling, formatting, punctuation, etc. in the order of service (liturgy).
-Create blurbs and fill out “This Week” and “Upcoming” pages.
Flyers, etc.
-Design and print flyers for upcoming events. Update bulletin boards in Parish House and Stearns Room. Post flyers around town in Lincoln.
-Design and create other physical materials such as visitor pamphlets, connect cards, Welcome Back and Christmas and Easter postcards.
Website, Social Media, and Promotion (20-30%)
-Regularly update and maintain website (fplincoln.org). Add relevant upcoming blurbs and pictures, and update pages to reflect current community life.
-Update website pictures every 2-3 months.
-Make weekly Instagram posts to recap or promote FPL programs, highlighting the different communities within the church.
-Develop social media strategy to help communicate FPL’s vision and values in public.
-Promote events weekly to wider community via Lincoln Talk and Lincoln Squirrel.
-Manage the FPL “brand” (logo/style guide) to ensure consistency, presence, and quality.
Tech Management (0-10%, depending on experience and interest)
-Function as liaison between AV projects, and wider staff.
-Prepare slides and subsequent worship streams.
-Oversee worship and event livestreaming (via Altar Live).
-Maintain updated list of AV Projects; Meet with AV Specialist to move projects forward.
-Maintain and monitor the FPL YouTube and Altar Live accounts.
Availability
-Regular in-person presence at Wednesday morning staff meetings is preferred.
-Regular communication throughout the week is required, especially on Wednesday and Thursday.
-Regular availability to staff by email, text, and phone.
-Availability to congregation by email; help our older folks navigate unfamiliar technology.
Qualifications
-Alignment with FPL’s values and culture.
-Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
-Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
-Knowledge of marketing principles.
-Proficiency with website content management systems (WordPress).
-Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and design tools such as Canva.
-Experience with digital marketing platforms such as MailChimp is
desirable.
-Experience with church software systems such as Breeze is desirable.
Education and Experience
-Associate’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or related field preferred.
-Two to three years of experience in communications or marketing.
-Nonprofit or church-related experience is a plus.
The Communications Manager would report to one of the Co-Ministers.
