Content Associate

About the Firm

StarGuard Law, P.C. is an IP, Entertainment, and Technology law firm serving artists, founders, and tech companies in the US and Canada. We are building our content operation from an early stage. That means this role involves shaping how we approach content overall, not just filling calendar slots.

Position Summary

This role has three parts: helping shape our content strategy, producing content day to day, and building the tooling that makes both sustainable.

An important note on scope: you will not be researching, interpreting, or originating legal content. All legal substance comes from our attorneys — as outlines, notes, recorded explanations, or rough drafts. Your work is to take that raw material and turn it into clear, well-structured, audience-appropriate content, then route it back for attorney review before publishing anything.

You will report to me, SGL's founder, who will review your work and meet with you weekly.

Key Responsibilities

Content Strategy

  • Help develop and refine the firm's overall content strategy — which audiences we're trying to reach, what topics deserve investment, and which formats and channels fit
  • Conduct topic research: what prospective clients are actually searching for and asking, what competitors are publishing, and where the gaps are
  • Recommend a content mix and publishing cadence, and make the case for your recommendations
  • Track how published content performs and feed those findings back into what we plan next

Content Production

  • Draft blog posts, practice-area pages, FAQs, and client-facing explainers from attorney-supplied source material
  • Structure, edit, and format content for clarity and readability, including headlines, subheadings, and calls to action
  • Repurpose long-form content into social posts, short-form video scripts, email copy, and graphics
  • Create simple visual assets — graphics, thumbnails, short vertical video edits — using [Canva / Adobe Express / CapCut / other]
  • Submit every piece touching legal substance for attorney review prior to publication, without exception

Content Operations & Automation

  • Own and maintain the content calendar: topics, drafts, review status, publication dates
  • Design and implement an AI-assisted content workflow — using AI tools to accelerate research, drafting, repurposing, and formatting, with verification checkpoints built in
  • Build automation connecting the pieces of that workflow, using tools such as [Zapier / Make / Claude / other], so recurring content tasks require less manual handling
  • Develop reusable prompt templates, style references, and briefs so output stays consistent regardless of who is producing it
  • Document the systems you build so they remain usable after your term ends

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in communications, journalism, English, marketing, public relations, or a related field
  • Demonstrably strong writing and editing skills — a portfolio, published clips, coursework samples, or a personal blog will be requested
  • Working proficiency with AI tools, and clear judgment about where they are appropriate to use and where their output requires human verification
  • Comfortable working independently in a fully remote setting, with reliable internet and the discipline to meet deadlines without daily in-person oversight
  • Able to commit 15–20 hours per week for the full four-month term
  • Baseline comfort with common software: Google Workspace, a scheduling or project tool, and at least one design tool

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with SEO and GEO fundamentals — keyword research, on-page structure, internal linking, and how content gets surfaced and cited in AI-generated search results
  • Basic video editing and short-form vertical video production
  • Hands-on experience building automations or connected workflows between tools
  • Experience developing prompt libraries, templates, or repeatable AI-assisted processes
  • Coursework or self-study in marketing within a regulated industry

What We're Looking For in a Person

  • Reliability. You meet deadlines, communicate early when something slips, and do not need to be chased.
  • Initiative. You notice gaps and propose work rather than waiting to be assigned it. This role rewards someone who builds a better process instead of grinding through a worse one.
  • Ethical judgment. Legal marketing is governed by attorney advertising rules. You do not fabricate, exaggerate, or publish claims you cannot support, and you flag uncertainty instead of guessing.
  • Discipline about scope. When a question requires legal knowledge, you bring it to an attorney. You never fill the gap yourself, and you never let an AI tool fill it either.

What You'll Gain

  • Direct mentorship from me with scheduled weekly feedback sessions
  • A portfolio of published, attributable work
  • Practical experience designing AI-assisted content systems from scratch — increasingly the thing employers are actually hiring for
  • Exposure to marketing within a regulated profession, including attorney advertising rules and confidentiality constraints
  • A written performance review at the midpoint and conclusion of the term

How to Apply

Submit a resume and 2–3 writing samples through Handshake. In place of a cover letter, include a short note (no more than 300 words) describing how you currently use AI tools in your own work.
