Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor (apply 9.21-10.5.2026)

Become a key part of the Department of Corrections (DOC) as a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Albion. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides classroom and hands-on instruction in the refrigeration mechanic trade while maintaining discipline and clear structure. You will help inmates learn important vocational skills that support facility needs and prepare them for future success. As a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

• Trade Instruction: Teach refrigeration and air conditioning installation, repair, inspection, and maintenance
• Crew Oversight: Direct inmate work crews, monitor work quality, and inspect completed assignments
• Tool Management: Issue tools, track inventory, and conduct searches to ensure all items remain accounted
• Material Planning: Determine needed supplies, submit purchase requests, and manage materials for projects
• Documentation Duties: Maintain records of inmate progress, attendance, and project assignments
• Classroom Management: Maintain order and apply instructional methods and trade curriculum that support skill development

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Five years of experience in the repair and servicing of refrigeration systems or air conditioning systems; or
• Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade.

Special Requirements:

• You must be in possession of an active Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate issued by an approved provider.

Other Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
