Elementary Teacher
The elementary teacher’s primary responsibility is to instruct and educate students based on their unique needs and abilities. Instruction should be academically rigorous and incorporate biblical principles. Teachers should embody the “Joy of the Lord” in their interactions with students and serve as positive role models for their colleagues.
Required Qualities
1. Required Spiritual Qualities and Expectations
- Faith and Belief: Acknowledges Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord, actively supports GCA’s Statement of Faith, and believes in being called to Christian school ministry.
- Lifestyle and Conduct: Seeks to live as a Christian disciple, displaying maturity, being a positive role model, and maintaining high ethical standards.
- Professional Commitment: Integrates a Biblical Worldview into teaching, honors Christ in all activities, and resolves conflicts using the Matthew 18 principle.
2. Required Professional Qualities:
- Education Requirement: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Teaching Certification: Non-tax or professional teaching certificate from Ohio and meet ACSI certification requirements.
- Professional Conduct: Adherence to GCA Faculty / Staff Handbook, Confidentiality, Conflict of Interest, Lifestyle, and Foundational Documents.
3. Required Personal Qualities
- Personal Qualities: Spiritual maturity, academic ability, leadership qualities, vision, encouragement, self-motivation, high energy level.
- Professional Skills: Organizational skills, communication skills, instructional differentiation, sensitivity, emotional stability, objectivity, optimism.
- Interpersonal Abilities: Discernment, discretion, confidentiality, rapport building with students, parents, and staff.
Essential Job Functions
1 - Academic Leadership & Functions
- Lesson Planning and Delivery: Develop lesson plans aligned with standards, employ diverse teaching methods, and differentiate instruction to cater to all students.
- Student Assessment and Progress Tracking: Observe, assess, and report on student progress, providing feedback and adjusting teaching strategies accordingly.
- Communication and Collaboration: Communicate with parents, staff, and administrators, promptly addressing concerns and collaborating to support student success.
- Teacher’s Role: Teachers should be facilitators of learning, critical thinking, and Biblical Worldview.
- Resource Management: Textbooks and equipment should be cared for, tracked, and used optimally.
- Strategic Plan: The school’s strategic plan should be adopted and implemented.
2 - Additional Duties or Responsibilities
- Professional Development: Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Student Supervision: Perform duties such as lunch, recess, study hall, and drop-off/pick-up lines.
- Attendance and Reporting: Report daily tardies, absences, and planned time off promptly.
