Public Relations & Social Media Intern – Trouble Defense LLC

Trouble Defense LLC is a veteran-owned firearms safety, education, and professional training company serving Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. We are seeking an ambitious Public Relations & Social Media Intern who wants hands-on experience building the visibility of a growing small business.

This is not a typical internship where you'll spend your time doing administrative work. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to real PR campaigns, media outreach, social media strategy, content creation, and brand development while building measurable work for your professional portfolio.

What You'll Do
  • Research journalists, podcasts, publications, influencers, and media opportunities relevant to our company and programs
  • Help pitch Trouble Defense stories to local, regional, and national media
  • Draft press releases, media pitches, announcements, and company stories
  • Help manage Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social platforms
  • Create engaging short-form content including Reels, videos, photos, captions, and Stories
  • Develop creative ideas to increase brand awareness and engagement
  • Attend selected training sessions, community programs, corporate events, and company activities to capture content
  • Help promote company milestones, partnerships, community initiatives, and special programs
  • Identify podcast and interview opportunities for company leadership
  • Track media outreach, responses, placements, backlinks, social growth, and campaign performance
Who We're Looking For

We are especially interested in students studying Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Media, or a related field.

The ideal candidate is creative, dependable, an excellent communicator, comfortable using social media, and willing to take initiative. Experience with Instagram, TikTok, Canva, CapCut, photography, video editing, or media outreach is a plus.

You do not need years of professional experience. We're looking for someone who is hungry to learn, has good ideas, isn't afraid to reach out to people, and wants the opportunity to build a strong portfolio.

Position Details
  • Part-time paid internship
  • Approximately 5 hours per week
  • $20 per hour
  • BONUS OPPORTUNITIES
  • Flexible schedule
  • Combination of remote work and occasional on-site work in Fairfax, Virginia
  • 90-day initial internship with opportunity to continue based on performance
