Reports To: Head of School / Director of Learning

Contact: sylvieh@olivetacademy.org

Olivet Academy is a small, nurturing Christian private school serving students from preschool through 8th grade. We integrate a solid foundation of faith and academic excellence with a gentle, soft-approach classical education. Our mission is to deepen students' connection to Jesus Christ, foster a love for learning, and inspire service to their local and global communities.

We are seeking a warm, reflective G1–G5 English Language Arts (ELA) and History teacher who is eager to embrace Charlotte Mason's pedagogy. In this role, you will guide small groups of students through narrative-based teaching (living books, narration, and rich discussions) using the Alveary curriculum. Prior Charlotte Mason experience is not required—we provide straightforward training and support to help you master this beautiful, gentle approach to classical learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach ELA and History to small elementary groups using narrative and Charlotte Mason methods.
  • Implement and adapt the Alveary curriculum to fit classroom needs.
  • Establish a quiet, engaging, and joyful environment that encourages curiosity, habit-building, and critical thinking.
  • Assess student growth primarily through oral and written narration, discussion, and authentic student work.
  • Collaborate closely with parents and fellow staff to cultivate a supportive, Christ-centered community.

Qualifications & Qualities

  • Faith & Alignment: Strong Christian character; affirms the Statement of Faith and models a life dedicated to serving Christ and others.
  • Educational Approach: Enthusiasm for a gentle classical model and a strong willingness to learn and apply Charlotte Mason pedagogy (training provided).
  • Skills: Excellent communication, strong organizational habits, and a patient, warm classroom presence.
  • Experience: Background working with elementary-aged children in school, tutoring, or camp settings. A degree in Education or a related field is preferred.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working with mixed-age or small-group settings in a close-knit school environment.

General Requirements

  • Background checks, fingerprinting, and standard health clearances (including TB test and required immunizations).
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
