First Grade Teacher
POSITION SUMMARY
Holy Spirit Catholic School is seeking a dedicated, dependable, and enthusiastic First Grade Teacher-Minister to join our elementary school team. We are looking for an educator with strong K–2 teaching skills and a particular strength in early literacy and reading instruction.
The ideal candidate will have a genuine love for young children and a strong understanding of the developmental, academic, and social needs of early elementary students. The First Grade Teacher-Minister will provide high-quality instruction in a structured, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment that builds strong foundational skills in reading, writing, mathematics, and other core subjects.
Under the direction of the school principal, a teacher-minister is responsible for supporting the Diocese of Boise, the Office of Catholic Schools, and school parish in their mission to evangelize, catechize, and educate youth in a Catholic School environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills including written and oral, public speaking, and presentation skills.
- Be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Possess technological skills including word processing and school-related technology.
- Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapting appropriately in a ministerial environment.
- Must pass a criminal background check and complete Diocesan Safe Environment training.
- Exhibit a clean and neat personal appearance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Help build the school’s faith community by a demonstrated willingness to participate in and help plan school religious and service activities.
- Demonstrate effective planning skills by preparing lessons designed to achieve academic goals.
- Demonstrate competence in teaching by demonstrating current knowledge of the academic and religious curriculum as specified and be able to communicate effectively with students; be able to organize classroom learning and materials to maximize student time on task as well as motivate student learning.
- Develop and use effective methods of evaluation that are related to the curriculum.
- Establish a consistent disciplinary approach which promotes self-direction and positive self-image; set high standards for student behavior.
- Maintain a functional and pleasant learning environment.
- Cooperate with school and diocesan administration; work effectively with all staff members to promote positive relationships with students and parents.
- Participate in/attend all faculty meetings and professional development.
- At all times, demonstrate professional responsibility in enforcing school policies and regulations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Be available for evening and weekend work as necessary.
- Collaborate and work with the school parish regarding students who wish to get baptized and or enter the Catholic Church.
- Hold or attain Diocesan catechetical certification within three years of hire.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited institution.
- Current Idaho teaching certificate (or the ability to obtain one).
- Experience preferred in a K-5 teaching environment.

- Motor skills needed for equipment operation and general office duties.
- Sufficient personal mobility, agility, strength, and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work at a keyboard for an extended period of time, to reach, stoop, bend, and stretch in filing materials, lift up to 25 pounds, and work in an office environment.
