Job Description

Immediate Opening: Special Education Resource Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Resource Teacher to join a middle school team in Romulus, Michigan. This is an immediate-start opportunity for the remainder of the current school year, serving students in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade within a resource classroom setting.

The ideal candidate is committed to supporting students with diverse learning needs, collaborating with staff and families, and helping students achieve academic and behavioral success.

Responsibilities


  • Provide direct special education instruction to middle school students in a resource setting.


  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).


  • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure student accommodations and modifications are appropriately implemented.


  • Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals.


  • Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings.


  • Maintain accurate compliance documentation and student records.


  • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, administrators, and support staff.


  • Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions.


  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.


  • Support students in developing academic, organizational, and self-advocacy skills.


Qualifications


  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a Special Education endorsement.


  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Special Education or a related field.


  • Experience working with middle school students preferred.


  • Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and special education compliance requirements.


  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.


  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Previous experience in a middle school resource classroom.


  • Experience with progress monitoring and data-driven instruction.


  • Familiarity with co-teaching and inclusive practices.


  • Experience supporting students with a variety of learning, behavioral, and emotional needs.
