Front Desk Assistant with Learning Connection

Position Summary 

The Learning Connection is seeking Front Desk Assistants to help create a welcoming and supportive environment that enhances student learning. Front Desk Assistants may be scheduled to work in the Learning Connection (B600), STEM (B3900), and/or WRAC (B100) Centers depending on program and center needs.

Responsibilities & Duties 

Front Desk Assistants will: 

Welcome students, tutors, and visitors to the tutoring center. 

Answer questions and help students navigate Learning Connection program resources, including how to find tutor schedules and how to meet with a tutor online or in-person.  

Answer questions about general campus information and refer students to other college resources and services as appropriate, including other tutoring labs/centers, Library, Student Life Office, Financial Aid, Admissions and Records, Counseling, Student Equity/Gladiator Hub, etc. 

Refer students to staff/faculty as appropriate. 

Assist with center check-in and kiosk, computers/printers, and other self-service tools. 

Assist with general center operations and maintain clean and organized spaces within the centers (i.e. light cleaning, restocking supplies, moving chairs/tables back, etc.). 

Maintain student privacy and follow college procedures. 

Work collaboratively with other Front Desk Assistants, tutors, and college staff. 

Participate in training and work across Learning Connection service areas as needed, including the Comm Lab (Rm. 803), the LC Center (B600, 2nd floor), the STEM Center (Rm. 3906), and the WRAC Center (Rm. 196). 

Position Requirements 

Applicants should: 

Be currently enrolled at Chabot College in at least one class and eligible for student employment. 

Have received a Federal Workstudy award through the Financial Aid Office and maintain a minimal enrollment of 6 units during period of employment. 

Have strong communication and customer service skills, including the ability to work well with students, peers, staff and instructors   

Be dependable, professional, and have good organizational and time management skills. 

Have basic computer skills, including familiarity with campus platforms (Canvas, MyPortal, Office and Google suites, Zoom, etc.)   

Have a positive attitude and a desire to work with diverse populations.  

Be willing to learn about Chabot College programs and resources. 

Be able to work independently with minimal supervision after sufficient training and as part of a team. 

Be willing to work in all areas of the Learning Connection program. 

Able to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight 

Previous experience in customer service, peer support, tutoring, or campus employment is helpful but not required.
