Student Worker, Digital Content Creator (Video)

Position Summary:

MU Extension’s Integrated Marketing Communications team is seeking a creative student worker to help bring Extension’s “news to use” content to life through short form video. This position will focus on producing engaging YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels featuring practical, research-based tips on topics such as gardening, cooking, nutrition, and other everyday solutions that improve the lives of Missourians.

The student worker will record and edit short, engaging videos that highlight MU Extension specialists, volunteers, and demonstrations, turning expert knowledge into content that is easy to watch, share, and use.  When not traveling to record Extension content, the student worker will primarily work at 1400 Rock Quarry Road —unless a different location is agreed to.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel within the Columbia area to film Extension specialists, volunteers, and demonstrations such as gardening tips and cooking demonstrations
  • Produce, record, and edit YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels that feature MU Extension’s news to use content
  • Edit video using Adobe Creative Suite including Premiere Pro and After Effects to create polished, high-quality reels
  • Collaborate with the Integrated Marketing Communications team to align video content with MU Extension’s brand and communication goals
  • Capture b roll and supporting footage for future use
  • Pitch creative ideas for new video opportunities and trending approaches to showcase MU Extension content

Qualifications:

  • Current student at the University of Missouri
  • Experience using video recording equipment such as cameras, lighting, and microphones
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite including Premiere Pro and After Effects or comparable tools
  • Creativity and an eye for storytelling in short form video
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and adhere to the university vehicles policy https://bppm.missouri.edu/policy/university-vehicles/ 

Preferred Skills (not required):

  • Experience producing Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, or TikTok content
  • Familiarity with social media engagement trends
  • Photography skills

Compensation and Hours:

  • $20/hour
  • Flexible schedule, 10 to 15 hours per week depending on project load
