WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY
As a Health Scientist (Suicide Prevention), you will:
- Provide subject matter expertise and initiate highly interdisciplinary research on suicide, suicide-related risk and protective factors, and
community-based prevention strategies. - Inform prevention activities by analyzing complex data from diverse sources, using appropriate quantitative and/or qualitative methods.
- Prepare scientific and other articles and technical reports for publication about the results and implications of scientific investigations of injury and suicide prevention.
Qualifications
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
AND
Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year of specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following:
- Providing technical guidance on design implementation, surveillance and evaluation of scientific studies and projects, to reduce suicide, suicidal behavior, and related mental health difficulties.
- Analyzing data sets, and/or presenting research findings designed to reduce suicide and suicidal behavior.
- Preparing articles and technical reports, program planning, and evaluation of injury and suicide prevention initiatives, for peer reviewed publication and presentation at conferences.
