Construction Project Engineer (Tualatin, OR)

Today we are hiring  an experienced **Project Engineer** to join an established commercial general contractor in Tualatin, Oregon.

Position Overview

The Project Engineer provides **technical, administrative, and field coordination support** throughout the entire construction process—from project conception through completion.

The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, architects, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and field crews to help ensure projects are completed accurately, efficiently, safely, and on schedule.

 

Key Responsibilities

* Support the technical execution and management of commercial construction projects.
* Coordinate daily with clients, architects, subcontractors, vendors, Project Managers, Superintendents, and field personnel.
* Read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, and construction plan sets and identify constructability issues or discrepancies.
* Manage project documentation, including **RFIs, submittals, change proposals, subcontracts, and change orders**.
* Assist with project budgets, cost tracking, monthly cost projections, and client billings.
* Review vendor and subcontractor invoices for accuracy and compliance.
* Review subcontractor quotes and assist with procurement and negotiations.
* Assist with developing, updating, and maintaining project schedules.
* Support proposals, clarifications, alternates, and value engineering efforts.
* Participate in and help lead onsite meetings with clients, architects, subcontractors, and construction crews.
* Prepare and distribute detailed project meeting minutes.
* Identify and respond to technical and field issues and assist with risk mitigation.
* Collaborate with project teams to ensure the physical feasibility and quality of construction.
* Lead or support quality control, punch list, and project closeout processes.
* Assist Project Managers with contract requirements and owner agreements.
* Support marketing and business development initiatives.
* Mentor junior Project Engineers and assist with training, documentation review, and workload coordination.

 

Qualifications

* **5+ years of related commercial construction experience and/or training**, or an equivalent combination of education and field experience.
* Construction Management or Civil Engineering education is beneficial.
* Strong knowledge of commercial construction materials, processes, terminology, and equipment.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to read and interpret complex technical documents and construction plans.
* Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
* Ability to make timely, sound technical decisions and respond effectively to changing field conditions.
* Strong interpersonal, negotiation, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
* Ability to communicate professionally with clients, contractors, subcontractors, architects, and field personnel.

 

 

Software Skills

Advanced knowledge of:

* Microsoft Outlook
* Microsoft Word
* Microsoft Excel
* Microsoft Project
* Bluebeam

 

**Preferred:** Experience with Viewpoint and/or AIA Construction Software.

 

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position involves working in both office and active construction-site environments. Regular travel to active construction jobsites is required.

The role requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, use stairways, and navigate active jobsites. Occasional activities may include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and lifting or moving up to **25 pounds**.
