Student Teacher

Attention All Mid-Year Graduates and Education Majors Entering Student Teaching

The Jones-Gordon School is seeking Student Teachers to support classroom instruction for students in grades 1-12 while gaining hands-on teaching experience under the guidance of an experienced cooperating teacher. These positions provide opportunities to participate in lesson planning, instruction, assessment, classroom management, and student support across all content areas, with the potential for teaching assignments in the 2027/2028 academic year.

The ideal candidates are passionate about working with students and interested in supporting them in a collaborative, student-centered environment.

Essential Responsibilities

• Observe and participate in daily classroom instruction under the cooperating teacher's supervision.
• Assist with individual, small-group, and whole-class instruction.
• Support lesson planning, instructional activities, and classroom organization.
• Gradually assume teaching responsibilities as appropriate to the student-teaching program.
• Support differentiated instruction and students with varying learning needs.
• Assist with classroom routines, transitions, supervision, and school activities.
• Collaborate with teachers, learning specialists, administrators, and university supervisors.
• Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism, reliability, flexibility, and a willingness to learn.
• Participate in required meetings, training, and professional development.

Qualifications

Required:

• Enrollment in or recent graduate of an accredited teacher-preparation or approved educator-training program.
• Demonstrated interest in working with students.
• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to accept feedback and apply coaching to professional practice.
• Ability to meet applicable school and university requirements, including background screening or fingerprinting, as required.

Preferred:

• Previous classroom, tutoring, mentoring, childcare, or youth-development experience.
• Experience or interest in working with students with learning differences.
